Kia has presented the PV7 electric van, expanding its dedicated Platform Beyond Vehicle range while upping the ante in its commitment to the light commercial vehicle segment. Unveiled at the IAA Transportation 2026 show in Hanover, Germany, the PV7 succeeds the PV5 that was launched in 2025 in being a significantly larger and more capable offering. Designed for both business and passenger applications, the new model will be available in both passenger and cargo versions and will target a number of markets starting with Korea and Europe.
The PV7 measures 5,350 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width and 1,990 mm in height, with a 3,500 mm wheelbase, making it significantly larger than the PV5 and enabling greater passenger capacity and higher cargo volumes. Based on Kia’s E-GMP.S platform designed for purpose-built vehicles, the van features a flat-floor architecture to maximise usable interior space. At launch it will be offered with two nickel-cobalt-manganese battery options, a 71.5 kWh pack and a larger 96.2 kWh unit. The long-range cargo version is claimed to offer more than 460 km of range under the WLTP cycle. Power is provided by a front-mounted electric motor capable of up to 200 kW (around 272 PS) and 420 Nm of torque, with an all-wheel-drive variant expected to arrive at a later date. The vehicle uses an 800-volt electrical architecture that supports DC fast charging with up to 350 kW in order to allow a 10 to 80 per cent charge in the mid-20-minute range.
In the cargo version, the PV7 is designed for logistics, fleet and commercial operations, with a maximum payload of up to 1,200 kg depending on the configuration. The long-wheelbase standard-roof version can offer up to 6.1 cubic metres of cargo volume, with a high-roof version offering up to 8.0 cubic metres of cargo volume. The passenger version is geared towards shuttle services, crew transport, tourism and even family use, able to accommodate up to nine occupants globally and an 11-seat configuration reserved specifically for the Korean market. Flexible seating arrangements including the option of removable seats in some configurations further add to the model’s versatility.
Kia has indicated that the PV7 will debut in Korea and Europe in the second half of 2027, with additional markets expected to follow. The company aims to significantly expand the model range in the coming years, eventually offering as many as 23 variants, including different body lengths, roof heights, a chassis-cab version and various conversion models made possible by the use of a modular Flexible Body System. This approach is seen as a way for Kia to cover a wide spectrum of light commercial and people-moving needs with a single dedicated electric platform family.
By unveiling the larger and more capable PV7 after the PV5, Kia is indicating a serious long-term commitment to the electric light commercial vehicle segment. Competitive range figures, fast charging capabilities, considerable payload and passenger capacity and the proliferation of body styles are all seen as ways in which these electric vans can appeal to both business and private user
