Ampere Xyber Electric Motorcycle Design Patent Filed in India, Production Version Expected by 2027

Greaves Electric Mobility, the parent company of Ampere has filed a design patent for the Xyber electric motorcycle in India, marking steady progress towards the launch of the company’s first ever production electric bike for the domestic market. The filing comes months after the concept was unveiled at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo in New Delhi and signals that a production variant could make its debut at the 2027 edition of the show.

The patented design closely resembles the futuristic concept unveiled last year, featuring a sporty street-naked silhouette with muscular single-piece body panels running from the front fairing all the way to the rear subframe, aggressive wing-inspired DRLs, a compact flyscreen, wide handlebars and an unique LED headlight setup. Notable details include the absence of a fuel tank which has been replaced by a charging port at the location of the filler cap and heat-sink like structures at the battery location, hinting towards some form of active thermal management.

Although the official specifications have yet to be revealed, early reports from Ampere suggest that the Xyber will be equipped with a mid-mounted electric motor producing around 10 kW of power and a lithium ferro phosphate battery pack, which will enable the 200 km range on a single charge as claimed by the company. Additional details expected to carry over to production include the 100 km/h top speed and premium feel with inverted front forks, rear monoshock suspension, 17-inch wheels and disc brakes at both ends.

As Ampere’s first ever electric motorcycle, Xyber represents a major leap forward from their current scooter line-up and the filing of the design patent suggests that the company is looking to penetrate a higher segment of the electric two-wheeler market in India. By sticking with the dramatic single-piece bodywork, Arctic Term wing inspired DRLs and aggressive streetfighter stance characteristic of the original concept, Ampere is sending a clear signal to compete in the premium electric motorcycle segment which still remains largely untapped despite a proliferation of electric scooters.

Industry experts believe that the high degree of similarity between the patented design and the 2025 concept suggests that the production Xyber will retain the futuristic design which has been so well received at the Bharat Mobility show and will continue to provide an alternative to the more conventional electric motorcycles which currently dominate the market.

The development of the production Xyber will likely focus on finalizing the mid-mounted motor, battery placement and thermal management solutions to ensure that it meets the expectations of Indian buyers in terms of range and performance. With the expected range of around 200 km on a single charge and a top speed of 100 km/h, the Xyber will be ideally suited for both city commuting as well as longer inter-city travel. As Greaves Electric Mobility continue their work on the Xyber, the next major milestone will be the reveal of a production specification prototype at the 2027 Bharat Mobility Global Expo where Ampere will have the opportunity to display the Xyber’s evolution from concept to production motorcycle.

The filing of the design patent underscores Greaves Electric Mobility’s commitment to develop a production motorcycle which will remain true to the initial concept while incorporating the necessary features to meet the requirements of Indian buyers. As the development of the Xyber continues, industry experts expect further updates and details to be revealed ahead of its anticipated debut at the 2027 Bharat Mobility Global Expo.
