After BYD’s Yangwang U9 claimed the title of the world’s fastest production electric vehicle with a top speed of 496.22 km/h, Dongfeng-owned Voyah has captured attention with a dramatic demonstration of its own. The Chinese brand has successfully recreated the iconic Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG tunnel loop stunt using its new Passion S electric SUV, performing a full 360-degree loop inside a closed test tunnel in Wuhan.
The dual-motor all-wheel-drive Passion S, producing 637 hp and 765 Nm of torque, entered the curved tunnel wall at approximately 130 km/h with a precise steering angle of around 16 degrees. Centrifugal force kept the vehicle pressed against the surface as it completed the inverted loop and returned safely to the ground. Voyah states that the stunt was performed using a standard production-specification SUV, complete with its full battery pack and intelligent driving systems, without any weight-reduction modifications or special effects.
The manoeuvre closely mirrors the famous 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG advertisement that featured Michael Schumacher, which remains one of the most memorable and debated automotive commercials of its era. By repeating the feat with a much larger and heavier electric SUV rather than a lightweight supercar, Voyah aims to highlight the performance, traction control and structural integrity of its new model.
Interestingly, tyre marks visible on the tunnel ceiling suggest the team required multiple attempts to perfect the run. A video circulating online also appears to show at least one unsuccessful attempt in which the vehicle lost contact with the surface before the successful completion was achieved. Voyah has released footage claiming the final run was authentic and unedited, positioning the Passion S as the first production vehicle to complete such a full tunnel loop.
The stunt arrives just as the Passion S prepares for or has begun its market launch in China, showcasing the growing confidence of Chinese EV makers in demonstrating extreme real-world capability. With its powerful dual-motor setup and advanced engineering, the Passion S joins a wave of attention-grabbing performances that underline how far electric vehicle technology has progressed in both speed and dynamic control.
