Kia has officially confirmed that its upcoming Sorento will be offered with all-wheel drive in India. The carmaker’s ICE-powered flagship SUV for the Indian market will also become the first model in its segment to feature a strong-hybrid engine, marking a significant step for the brand in the premium three-row SUV space.
The Sorento is scheduled to launch on September 4, 2026, and will introduce Kia’s strong-hybrid technology to Indian buyers for the first time. Paired with the confirmed AWD system, the hybrid powertrain is expected to deliver a compelling combination of efficiency, performance and all-weather capability that sets it apart from existing rivals in the segment.
This dual confirmation of strong-hybrid technology and all-wheel drive makes the Sorento the first Kia model in India to offer both features. While the brand has previously offered AWD on its electric vehicles, the Sorento will bring the drivetrain to its internal combustion engine range, strengthening its credentials as a capable and versatile family SUV.
The India-spec Sorento is expected to be powered by a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong-hybrid system producing around 238-241 bhp and 380 Nm of combined torque. A 2.2-litre diesel engine option is also anticipated, giving buyers a choice between refined hybrid efficiency and proven diesel performance. Both powertrains are likely to be paired with automatic transmissions and the newly confirmed AWD setup.
Positioned as Kia’s flagship ICE SUV in India, the Sorento will compete in the premium three-row segment against established players such as the Toyota Fortuner and others. With its strong-hybrid technology, AWD capability, spacious three-row packaging and advanced features, the model is set to offer a distinctive alternative that blends modern efficiency with the practicality and confidence buyers expect from a large SUV.As the September 4 launch approaches, full specifications, pricing and variant details will be revealed, giving Indian customers a clearer picture of how the Sorento aims to redefine the flagship SUV experience for Kia in the market.
