The Indian SUV market is all set to welcome two exciting new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models later in 2026 — the BYD Seal U and the Jetour T2. Both SUVs promise a strong blend of performance, luxury features, and excellent fuel efficiency, making them appealing options for buyers looking to reduce running costs while enjoying electrified driving.
Electric-Only Range
- BYD Seal U: Offers a strong electric-only range of up to 126–200 km (depending on battery variant and testing cycle) on a full charge. This makes it one of the best-in-class for daily commute without using any petrol.
- Jetour T2: Delivers an electric-only range of 100–139 km (NEDC claimed). While slightly lower than the Seal U in some claims, it is still highly practical for city driving.
Combined Range (Petrol + Electric)
- BYD Seal U: Claims an impressive 1,200+ km total range on a full tank and full battery.
- Jetour T2: Offers a combined range of up to 800–1,000 km, depending on driving conditions and variant.
Fuel Efficiency (Hybrid Mode)
Both SUVs deliver excellent fuel economy when the battery is depleted and the petrol engine takes over:
- BYD Seal U: Expected fuel consumption of around 4.5–4.8 L/100km in hybrid mode.
- Jetour T2: Shows highly efficient figures, with real-world tests reporting as low as 1.3–2.4 L/100km in certain conditions, thanks to its advanced hybrid system.
Powertrain & Performance
Both models use a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with electric motors. The BYD Seal U is expected to offer smoother electric-first driving with its DM-i technology, while the Jetour T2 (especially AWD variants) focuses on stronger off-road capability and higher combined power output.
What This Means for Indian Buyers
- If you want maximum electric range and longer total driving distance with fewer stops, the BYD Seal U appears stronger on paper.
- If you prioritize class-leading fuel efficiency once the battery is empty and better value, the Jetour T2 could have an edge.
Both SUVs are expected to launch in India by the end of 2026 (Jetour T2 possibly around Diwali). Pricing, real-world mileage, and final specifications will play a major role in deciding the winner once they arrive.Which one are you more excited about — the BYD Seal U or the Jetour T2?
