TVS Motor Company is gearing up to increase its electric two-wheeler production capacity to around 80,000 units per month. Currently, the Chennai-based automaker produces around 60,000-65,000 electric two-wheelers per month however it is beginning to work on increasing this further.

During a Q2 FY2027 analyst call, the automaker noted it needs to increase production to meet growing demand from its electric vehicle sector. This will increase its capacity by around 15-20,000 units per month. Electric scooters are becoming an important part of India’s two-wheeler market as customers are considering them as they offer cheaper running costs, easy charging solutions and are ideal for daily commutes. As more people consider buying electric vehicles, manufacturers are focusing on increasing production.

The increase in TVS Motor’s production capacity for electric two-wheelers from 60,000-65,000 units per month to around 80,000 units demonstrates how important the electric vehicle sector is becoming to the company. It is now getting ready to increase production again. At this capacity, the company will be able to produce up to 9.6 lakh electric two-wheelers per annum. This is a theoretical figure.

This extra capacity could help the company handle any demand fluctuations, avoid any shortages and ensure there are vehicles available during periods of high demand. It will also provide more flexibility to the company as it looks to increase its electric scooter production. However, how much the company can actually produce will depend on demand, how many components are available, production schedules and how much of the extra capacity is used.

TVS Motor have already begun making a name for themselves in the Indian electric two-wheeler sector. They currently offer the iQube electric scooter which appeals to customers who want an electric option for their daily commute. As more people consider electric scooters, capacity is becoming an important factor for manufacturers. High demand means companies must ensure they have enough stock and can cope with increased production.

This increase will help give TVS Motor more flexibility with production as the electric scooter market continues to grow. Having a larger production capacity each month could help the manufacturer better cope with demand in different regions. The company also exports and this can open up new opportunities. However, demand, regulations and customer preferences will vary between countries.

Having a higher production capacity for electric two-wheelers (80,000 units per month) will give TVS Motor a larger production base to help them achieve their electric vehicle ambitions. It will also help them prepare for future demand. It could help ensure there are more vehicles available for customers, especially during periods of high demand. For the company it will give them scope to increase production as their electric scooter sector grows.

This shows how priorities are changing for established two-wheeler manufacturers in India. Although petrol powered scooters and motorbikes still make up a large chunk of the market, electric vehicles are becoming an important part of their long term strategies. The next stage of increasing their electric vehicle production capacity will be important to see how well they can cope with demand.

As they are already producing 60,000-65,000 electric two-wheelers per month, increasing this to around 80,000 units shows a big step in their electric vehicle production plans. As they increase production they will be looking to match this with consistent demand and continue to make a name for themselves in the growing Indian electric scooter market.
