Tesla has expanded its presence in the Indian EV market with the launch of the Model Y L, a long-wheelbase, three-row, six-seater variant of its popular electric SUV. Priced at ₹61.99 lakh (ex-showroom), this premium all-wheel-drive model marks a significant step for the American automaker, offering enhanced family-friendly practicality tailored for Indian buyers who often prefer spacious vehicles. Deliveries of the Model Y L Premium AWD have now begun, bringing advanced electric mobility to discerning customers.

The Model Y L stands out with its stretched dimensions compared to the standard Model Y. It features an additional 179 mm in length, a 150 mm longer wheelbase, and 44 mm more height, resulting in a more commanding presence on the road while maintaining the same width. This extended layout enables a versatile 2+2+2 seating configuration with captain seats in the second row, providing generous legroom and comfort across all three rows. The interior retains Tesla’s signature minimalist design, highlighted by a large central touchscreen, an 8-inch rear screen, panoramic glass roof, ventilated and heated seats, and premium vegan leather upholstery.

Powering the Model Y L is a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system paired with a larger battery pack (approximately 82-88 kWh), delivering impressive performance. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.0 seconds and boasts a top speed of 201 km/h. Most notably, it claims a WLTP range of up to 681 km on a single charge, making it one of the longest-range electric SUVs in its segment and ideal for both city commutes and inter-city travel. Fast charging via Tesla’s Supercharger network can add up to 288 km of range in about 15 minutes.

To boost adoption, Tesla is offering flexible financing starting at approximately ₹49,990 per month with a down payment of around ₹6.5 lakh (based on a 7-year tenure at 8.5% APR). This positions the premium EV as a competitive choice against luxury SUVs while providing the benefits of lower running costs typical of electric vehicles.

Following the Model Y L, Tesla plans to roll out the more affordable Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant priced at ₹50.89 lakh (ex-showroom). This 5-seater model offers a WLTP range of around 500 km and deliveries are expected to commence in July 2026. Tesla is also expanding its footprint by initiating deliveries in four additional cities, building on its current presence in key metros like Mumbai, Bengaluru, New Delhi, and Gurugram.

The arrival of the six-seater Tesla Model Y L underscores the growing demand for premium, family-oriented electric vehicles in India. With its blend of range, performance, space, and advanced technology, it is poised to appeal to buyers seeking a modern, sustainable alternative to traditional luxury SUVs. As Tesla continues to strengthen its Indian operations through localized initiatives and expanded service networks, the Model Y L could play a pivotal role in accelerating the country’s electric mobility transitio
