Jaguar Land Rover has officially unveiled the Range Rover Sport Electric and opened bookings for the car in India, with the first-ever fully electric version of the Range Rover Sport joining the ranks of its siblings. A combination of luxury and performance, the new electric SUV features a massive 118.5kWh battery pack, which is claimed to offer a WLTP range of up to 609 kilometres on a single charge. Power is delivered through a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that can produce up to 550hp and 850Nm of torque, propelling the car from 0 to 100kph in a claimed 4.5 seconds and putting it in the same performance bracket as the V8-engined Range Rover Sport.
The Sport Electric follows the same Flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture as its siblings, but gets aerodynamic tweaks that are better suited to an electric powertrain. Subtle changes to the front bumper, underbody and wheels reduce drag, while retaining the athletic presence of the Sport, albeit in a more compact form factor than the full-size Range Rover. The large battery pack, shared with the full-size Range Rover Electric, features an 800-volt architecture and supports DC fast charging up to 350kW, allowing the car to charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 22 minutes. A 10-minute charge should be enough to add up to 220 kilometres of range, under ideal conditions. An eight-year or 1.6 lakh kilometre warranty is offered for the battery, whichever comes first.
The dual-motor setup has been tuned to offer more performance than the full-size Range Rover Electric, with faster torque response (up to 50 percent quicker) for improved agility and overtaking response. Dynamic Launch mode has also been introduced to sharpen the performance characteristics when accelerating from rest, while a top speed of 200kph ensures the car is capable of keeping up with high-speed motorways. Despite being purely electric, the Sport Electric retains the off-road credentials of a Range Rover, with a claimed water-wading depth of 900mm and a full complement of Terrain Response systems, all adapted for an electric powertrain.
The cabin of the Sport Electric is also faithful to the comfort, luxury and technology of a Range Rover, with a five-seat layout as standard, featuring powered, heated and ventilated seats across multiple rows in higher-spec variants. Four-zone climate control, wireless phone charging and a well-equipped infotainment system, featuring a large central touchscreen and a fully digital driver’s display, rounds out the cabin specification. Materials and finishes are expected to follow the same hierarchy as the current Range Rover, with Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, Autobiography and First Edition variants offering increasing levels of equipment and exclusivity. A special First Edition, finished in unique shades of Zadar Grey with a satin wrap, black contrast roof and large alloy wheels is also expected to debut in India.
The Range Rover Sport Electric will be imported into India as a fully imported model, with deliveries expected to commence around March 2027. Priced at the top end of the luxury EV SUV segment, the Sport Electric is expected to retail around Rs 2.50 crore. As the vehicle is fully electric, it will not benefit from tariff concessions under the India-UK Free Trade Agreement, which will have an impact on the final on-road pricing in India. By opening bookings for the Sport Electric now, JLR has given Indian customers a head start on securing one of the most anticipated electric Range Rovers, well ahead of the first deliveries.
The introduction of the Range Rover Sport Electric builds on JLR’s growing portfolio of electric vehicles, with the full-size Range Rover Electric set to debut soon after. The company is investing heavily in developing pure-electric alternatives to its existing range of vehicles, in order to meet the demand for performance and presence that is synonymous with the Range Rover brand.
