Nissan Unveils NX8, 81 kWh, electric 4.8m SUV in China with Dual Powertrains and Up to 1,450 km Range

Dongfeng Nissan has officially launched the all-new NX8, a family-focused mid-size electrified SUV developed exclusively for the Chinese market. The model expands the brand’s locally developed N Series lineup as its first SUV offering, following the N6 and N7 sedans.

Positioned in size between the Nissan Rogue (X-Trail) and the larger Pathfinder, the NX8 targets Chinese families seeking spacious comfort, advanced technology, and flexible electrification options without range anxiety.

The NX8 measures 4,870 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,680 mm in height, with a 2,917 mm wheelbase. It offers a roomy five-seat cabin with an 83% “roominess ratio,” generous legroom, and versatile storage. The exterior features a sleek, modern EV-inspired design with a closed front grille, full-width LED lighting, flush door handles, and distinctive OLED taillights.

The NX8 is available with both pure electric (BEV) and extended-range electric (EREV/REEV) powertrains:

  • Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV): Offered in three grades (580 Pro, 580 Max, and 650 Max). It rides on an advanced 800V platform (Tianyan Architecture 2.0) with support for 5C ultra-fast charging. The top-spec version uses an 81 kWh LFP battery from CATL, delivering up to 650 km CLTC range. A rear-mounted electric motor produces up to 250 kW (335 hp), enabling strong performance. Charging is exceptionally quick — adding roughly 300 km of range in just 6 minutes on a compatible fast charger.
  • Extended-Range EV (EREV): Available in three grades (150 Pro, 150 Max, and 310 Max). This variant combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine (functioning mainly as a generator) with a powerful electric motor (up to 250 kW). Battery options provide up to 310 km of pure electric CLTC range in the top grade, while the total combined range reaches an impressive 1,450 km. Fuel consumption in charge-sustaining mode is as low as 4.51 L/100 km

The NX8 generated significant excitement upon its launch on April 8, 2026. Dongfeng Nissan reported 8,423 orders within the first 30 minutes of opening sales — a promising sign in China’s highly competitive new-energy vehicle segment.BEV versions are available for immediate purchase and delivery, while EREV models will begin customer deliveries from mid-to-late May 2026.

Official pricing ranges from 159,900 yuan to 209,900 yuan (approximately ₹18.5 lakh to ₹24.3 lakh). At launch, a limited-time promotional price brings the entry-level variants down to as low as 149,900 yuan (~₹17.3 lakh / US$20,700), making it highly competitive against local rivals.

A standout feature is the “full-equipment from entry-level” philosophy: all grades come standard with 71 convenience, comfort, and safety features. Highlights include dual 15.6-inch displays, Nissan OS 2.0 infotainment with a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, advanced driver assistance systems (developed with Momenta), an optional large AR-HUD, and the “Cloud Shield Battery 2.0” safety system.

The NX8 represents Dongfeng Nissan’s renewed push into the electrified SUV space. By offering both pure EV and range-extender options on a China-specific platform, the company aims to appeal to a wide range of buyers — from those wanting zero-emission daily driving to families needing worry-free long-distance capability.

With its combination of bold design, impressive range figures, ultra-fast charging, spacious interior, and aggressive pricing, the Nissan NX8 is well-positioned to become a strong contender in China’s mid-size family SUV market in 2026 and beyond.
