JSW MG Motor India is gearing up to introduce an all-new three-row SUV based on the Wuling Starlight 560 (also known as Xingguang 560 in some markets). The model, internally referred to as Project 520, has been undergoing extensive testing on Indian roads and is expected to launch around October 2026, aligning with the festive Diwali season.
The upcoming MG Starlight 560 has been spotted multiple times in camouflaged form during road tests. Most recently, a test mule — believed to be the electric variant — was photographed charging at a parking facility (including sightings at locations like Manali). This strongly indicates that an all-electric powertrain is under development for the Indian market.
Design patents for the model were filed in India earlier in 2026, giving a clearer picture of its styling. The SUV features modern SUV proportions with a bold stance, positioned as a larger offering in MG’s lineup, dimensionally similar to or slightly larger than the current Hector Plus.
While the charging spy shots point to an EV, JSW MG has confirmed it will introduce both Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) and strong hybrid technologies in India, with the Starlight 560 expected to lead the PHEV charge.
- PHEV Variant: Internationally, it uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 20.5 kWh battery. Combined output is around 194-197 hp and 230 Nm, with approximately 100 km of pure electric range. It is expected to offer strong efficiency and performance suitable for Indian conditions.
- EV Variant: Features a 56.7 kWh LFP battery with a claimed CLTC range of up to 500 km. India-specific range figures (ARAI) will likely be lower but still competitive.
The model is built on a flexible platform supporting multiple powertrains and will be available in 5- and 7-seater configurations.
With dimensions around 4,745 mm in length and a 2,810 mm wheelbase, it offers a spacious cabin ideal for Indian families. Pricing is anticipated in a range that positions it competitively against these rivals, likely starting in the mid-to-upper teens (ex-showroom), though official figures are pending.
This launch forms part of JSW MG Motor India’s aggressive 2026 product offensive, which includes multiple new energy vehicles (EVs and PHEVs), the Majestor SUV, and others. The Starlight 560 represents the brand’s push into electrified powertrains while leveraging global SAIC-GM-Wuling resources for cost-effective, feature-rich offerings.
Expect the new MG to come loaded with advanced features, including a large touchscreen infotainment system, premium interiors, ADAS, and connected car technology consistent with recent MG launches.
As testing continues and the launch approaches, more details on India-specific specifications, pricing, and features are likely to emerge in the coming months. The MG Starlight 560 could significantly strengthen MG’s presence in the competitive three-row SUV segment with its electrified options.
