Mahindra’s first electric vehicle for the Australian market, the striking XEV 9e coupe-SUV, has been spotted on public roads in Melbourne, signalling an imminent entry into the country’s growing EV segment. The sighting, captured by CarsGuide in Melbourne, shows a white XEV 9e parked on a suburban street. The vehicle appears largely production-ready and visually identical to the Indian-market version, confirming Mahindra’s plans to bring this premium electric SUV Down Under.
The XEV 9e will mark Mahindra’s official entry into the Australian electric vehicle market. While the company already sells internal combustion engine models in Australia, this will be its first battery-electric offering. Industry sources suggest a launch could occur later in 2026 or in 2027. Positioned as a stylish, mid-size coupe-SUV, the XEV 9e is expected to compete with models like the BYD Sealion 7 and Zeekr 7X, offering strong value, bold design, and competitive range at a potentially more accessible price point.
The spied vehicle showcases the XEV 9e’s distinctive and aggressive styling:
- Front End: Dramatic full-width connected LED DRLs that extend from the bumper up along the bonnet, creating a highly recognisable light signature with welcome animations.
- Profile: A sleek coupe-SUV silhouette with a sloping roofline, muscular flared wheel arches, and glossy black body cladding.
- Rear: Connected LED taillights with dynamic animations and a high-set, squared-off tailgate.
The Mahindra XEV 9e is offered with two Blade LFP battery packs:
- 59 kWh battery: Around 228 hp (170 kW), 380 Nm torque, and a claimed range of up to 542 km (MIDC).
- 79 kWh battery: Up to 282 hp (210 kW), 380 Nm torque, and a claimed range of up to 656 km (MIDC) / approximately 533 km WLTP.
Both variants support fast DC charging (up to 175–180 kW), enabling 20–80% charge in roughly 20 minutes. The vehicle is built on Mahindra’s new INGLO platform and features rear-wheel drive with strong performance credentials, including 0–100 km/h acceleration in about 6.8 seconds.
Additional highlights include a lifetime battery warranty for the first owner, advanced safety features (including a strong Bharat NCAP rating), and a premium interior with dual or triple screens, panoramic sunroof, and high-end audio options.
The testing in Melbourne indicates Mahindra is actively preparing the XEV 9e for local conditions, including right-hand drive compatibility (already standard from the Indian market). The model is expected to appeal to buyers seeking a spacious, feature-rich, and long-range electric SUV without the premium pricing of some European and Chinese rivals. This sighting is the clearest signal yet that Mahindra is serious about expanding its electric lineup globally, with Australia positioned as a key early export market.
