Delhi Surpasses 10,000 EV Charging Points Milestone in Record Expansion

Delhi has officially crossed a significant landmark in India’s electric mobility journey by surpassing 10,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging points. This record-breaking expansion, reported in mid-April 2026, firmly establishes the national capital as the leading hub for EV adoption and infrastructure in the country.

According to officials, the city’s EV charging network has witnessed rapid growth over the past year, with the total number of charging points now exceeding 10,000. More than 3,000 charging points were added in just the last few months, marking one of the fastest expansions seen in any Indian city.

Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood attributed this impressive surge to clear policy direction and faster implementation under the current government. The growth has been driven by active contributions from power distribution companies, particularly BSES discoms (which have installed over 6,500 points) and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL).

Key Highlights of Delhi’s EV Charging Boom

  • Total Charging Points: Over 10,000 (public and accessible points)
  • Recent Additions: More than 3,000 in the past few months
  • BSES Contribution: Over 6,500 charging points and battery swapping stations
  • TPDDL Contribution: Around 3,783 EV connections in North Delhi
  • Power Demand Surge: EV charging load has increased nearly ninefold, from 24 MW in FY 2018-19 to over 227 MW currently, and is projected to reach 375 MW in the next two years.
  • Delhi now accounts for approximately 40% of India’s total electricity consumption for EV charging.

This milestone comes alongside Delhi’s ambitious revised EV Policy 2026, which includes plans to add thousands more charging points, incentives for buyers, scrappage bonuses, and mandates for dealerships to set up public chargers. The government has set a target of 18,000 charging points by the end of 2026.

The robust charging infrastructure is expected to significantly reduce range anxiety and accelerate EV registrations in Delhi. With easier access to charging facilities at homes, workplaces, malls, and public spaces, both two-wheelers and four-wheelers are seeing stronger uptake.Delhi’s achievement not only positions it ahead of other major cities but also serves as a model for other states looking to build reliable EV ecosystems.

As India pushes towards its 2030 EV targets, Delhi’s record expansion signals strong momentum in charging infrastructure development and reinforces the capital’s leadership in sustainable mobility.
