Suzuki’s e Sky, the production version of the Vision e-Sky concept first shown at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, has arrived with a 26 kWh LFP battery and a claimed range of up to 310 km in Japanese conditions. Measuring just 3,395 mm in length, 1,475 mm in width and 1,625 mm in height, this fully electric kei-class car weighs around 1,030 kg and prioritises efficiency, compact packaging and urban practicality. Its lightweight construction and modest battery deliver impressive real-world potential while keeping costs and energy use in check, making it a natural candidate for adaptation as an entry-level electric vehicle.
The question now circulating among Indian enthusiasts is whether Maruti Suzuki will gift the country its most affordable EV by 2027 using this platform as a foundation. In Japan the e Sky targets crowded city streets with its tight dimensions, excellent manoeuvrability and focus on doing more with less. For India, where price sensitivity remains high and daily commuting often involves short urban trips, a localised version could prove transformative. Analysts suggest that a Maruti-badged derivative might deliver an estimated real-world range of 200–220 km under Indian conditions, still sufficient for most city and suburban needs while benefiting from the same efficient 26 kWh LFP pack and compact footprint.
The car’s tall-boy proportions and clean design language already look well suited to Indian preferences for easy ingress, decent headroom and simple parking in congested areas. If Maruti were to localise production, leverage its extensive dealer network and aim for a price point that undercuts existing small EVs, the result could become the most accessible electric car the market has seen. Such a move would align with the growing demand for affordable zero-emission mobility and help Maruti strengthen its position in the rapidly expanding EV segment.
While no official confirmation has been issued regarding an Indian launch, the e Sky’s philosophy of small battery, low weight and high efficiency maps neatly onto the requirements of cost-conscious buyers. A well-executed adaptation arriving by 2027 could redefine entry-level electric mobility in India, offering practical range, city-friendly size and the trusted Maruti badge at a price that finally makes EVs mainstream for a much wider audience.
