BMW is preparing to introduce the facelifted 7 Series and its all-electric counterpart, the i7, in India on September 11, following the opening of pre-launch bookings at dealerships and online. The update brings revised exterior styling, a completely redesigned dashboard featuring BMW’s latest Panoramic iDrive system, and meaningful powertrain enhancements across the petrol, diesel and electric variants, positioning the flagship luxury sedan more competitively against rivals in the ultra-luxury segment.
The facelifted 740i xDrive continues with its 3.0-litre inline-six petrol mild-hybrid engine, now producing 400 hp and 580 Nm, an increase of 19 hp and 60 Nm over the outgoing model. The 740d xDrive diesel variant develops 313 hp and 670 Nm, gains of 27 hp and 20 Nm respectively. Both powertrains remain paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, delivering refined performance suited to the long-wheelbase luxury saloon.
On the electric side, the entry-level i7 eDrive50 has been replaced by the i7 xDrive50, which now features standard all-wheel drive and a larger 112.4 kWh battery in place of the previous 101.7 kWh unit. Output rises to 455 hp and 660 Nm. The high-performance i7 M70 xDrive also adopts the bigger battery pack, with power climbing from 650 hp to 680 hp and torque increasing from 1,015 Nm to up to 1,100 Nm. It remains to be seen whether the range-topping i7 M70 xDrive will form part of the initial India line-up.
With bookings already underway and the launch date confirmed, the refreshed 7 Series and i7 are expected to arrive with a modest price increase over the current models, which start at approximately ₹1.85 crore for the combustion variants and range between ₹2.10 crore and ₹2.58 crore for the electric versions. The combination of enhanced performance, improved range potential on the electric models, and advanced cabin technology should further strengthen BMW’s presence in India’s exclusive ultra-luxury sedan market.
