Ather Energy has received approval to list its electric scooters on the Canteen Stores Department portal, allowing eligible Armed Forces personnel, veterans and their families to purchase select models through the platform from September 2026. The move makes Ather one of the first pure-play electric two-wheeler manufacturers in India to offer its products via the CSD channel, opening a dedicated and trusted distribution route for the defence community.
Eight variants drawn from the company’s 450 and Rizta ranges will be available on the CSD platform. The 450 series, known for its focus on performance and engaging everyday riding dynamics, sits alongside the Rizta, which is positioned as a more practical, comfort-oriented family scooter. Together the listed models give buyers a choice of styles and battery configurations suited to different usage patterns. The top-of-the-line Ather 450 Apex has been deliberately left out of the CSD listing, keeping the available selection centred on the core volume variants.
Purchases made through the CSD portal will come with special discounts offered by Ather in addition to the GST benefits that apply to canteen sales. Electric vehicles already attract a concessional GST rate, and the CSD channel further reduces the effective tax burden, helping to lower the on-road price for eligible customers. This combination of manufacturer incentives and tax advantages is expected to make the transition to electric mobility more attractive for serving personnel, veterans and their dependents.
The CSD listing reflects Ather’s broader effort to expand accessibility while strengthening its presence in key customer segments. By integrating with the established canteen system, the company ensures that defence personnel can buy its scooters through a familiar and regulated platform rather than navigating conventional retail channels alone. Sales are scheduled to commence in September 2026, with further operational details on ordering, delivery and after-sales support expected to be communicated closer to the start date.
For the Armed Forces community, the availability of Ather’s connected electric scooters through CSD represents both a practical mobility option and a step toward cleaner personal transport. With eight carefully chosen variants now cleared for the portal, Ather positions itself to serve a discerning and loyal customer base while reinforcing its standing as a leading pure-play electric two-wheeler brand in India.
