Kia has officially confirmed that its globally celebrated Sorento SUV is heading to India, bringing with it a combination of features that will mark several firsts for the brand in the market. In its latest teaser, the company highlighted the model’s borderless legacy while revealing that the India-bound version will offer intelligent conversations through Live Gen AI, the efficiency of hybrid power, and the confidence of all-wheel drive.
The Sorento will become the first mass-market Kia SUV in India equipped with all-wheel drive, giving buyers enhanced traction and capability that has long been missing from the brand’s local lineup. Alongside this, it introduces Kia’s first strong hybrid powertrain in the country. The system is expected to pair a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output in the region of 238-241 PS and around 380 Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. This strong hybrid setup promises better efficiency without compromising performance, setting it apart in the premium three-row SUV segment.
Another standout feature is Live Gen AI, which enables natural, intelligent conversations inside the cabin. Kia positions this as a segment-leading technology that elevates the in-car experience beyond conventional voice assistants, making the Sorento one of the most advanced connected vehicles in its class upon arrival.
The model is scheduled for launch on 4 September 2026 and will be locally assembled. Pre-bookings are already open through Kia’s official channels and dealerships. Expected to be priced from around Rs 40 lakh, the Sorento will take on established rivals such as the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and MG Majestor, offering a compelling blend of hybrid efficiency, all-wheel-drive confidence and cutting-edge AI features that many competitors currently lack.
