As the Indian automotive market rapidly shifts towards better fuel efficiency and lower emissions, hybrid vehicles are emerging as the practical middle path between pure petrol and full electric cars. With stricter CAFE norms on the horizon and rising fuel prices, several major manufacturers are preparing to launch or expand their hybrid offerings in the next few months. From premium SUVs to compact crossovers, here’s a closer look at the key hybrid models expected soon, based on the latest insights from industry experts.
1. Kia Sorento Hybrid
Kia’s first hybrid SUV for India is set for launch on 4 September 2026, with bookings already open. It will be the brand’s flagship three-row model (available in 6- and 7-seater configurations) and marks Kia’s entry into the strong-hybrid segment. Powertrain: Expected 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong hybrid (internationally ~227–238 hp and ~350–380 Nm combined), paired with an automatic transmission. A diesel option is also confirmed at launch. BYD’s first major plug-in hybrid for India (also known globally as Sealion 6 in some markets) is expected by the end of 2026.
