India’s electric vehicle market is rapidly expanding into the family segment, with demand for three-row (6- and 7-seater) battery EVs surging. Sales of these models jumped from just 190 units in 2024 to over 17,000 in the first five months of 2026 alone, driven largely by the Mahindra XEV 9S. Several new 7-seater electric cars are lined up for launch in late 2026 and 2027, offering more space, longer range, and advanced features for Indian families.
1.Tata Safari EV
The Tata Safari EV is set to become Tata Motors’ first three-row electric SUV and the brand’s flagship family EV. It will share its underpinnings, platform (Acti.ev+ or Gen 2 architecture), and powertrains with the already-launched Harrier EV. Expected battery options include 65 kWh and 75 kWh packs, with single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations. Power output is anticipated around 235–390 hp depending on the variant, with claimed ARAI ranges likely in the 500–600 km bracket (slightly lower than the Harrier EV due to the Safari’s larger size and weight). Production is slated to begin around August 2026, with a festive-season launch (around Diwali 2026) expected. Pricing is projected between ₹22.5 lakh and ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom). Design will closely mirror the ICE Safari with EV-specific updates such as a closed grille, revised bumpers, and aero wheels. It will rival the Mahindra XEV 9S and offer features like Level 2 ADAS, panoramic sunroof, advanced connectivity, and captain seats in higher variants.
2.MG 7-Seater Electric SUV (Based on Wuling Starlight 560 / Hector Hawk / Starlight)
JSW MG Motor India is preparing a new 7-seater electric SUV based on the Wuling Starlight 560, widely expected to be badged as the Hector Hawk or similar. Measuring approximately 4,745 mm in length with a 2,810 mm wheelbase, it will offer spacious three-row seating. The pure-electric version is likely to feature a battery pack of around 56.7–69.2 kWh paired with a front-mounted motor producing roughly 134–204 hp and 200–310 Nm of torque. Claimed range (CLTC cycle) is expected near 530 km. A plug-in hybrid variant is also planned. Launch is targeted for August 2026 (with possible debut around late August). Pricing is estimated in the ₹20–27 lakh range. The interior is expected to feature dual screens (around 8.8-inch digital cluster and 12.8-inch touchscreen), leatherette upholstery, panoramic sunroof, ADAS, and modern connected features. It will compete with the Tata Safari EV, Mahindra XUV 7XO, and other mid-size three-row SUVs while expanding MG’s new-energy vehicle portfolio on the ADAPT platform.
3.Maruti Suzuki YMC (Electric MPV)
Maruti Suzuki’s first three-row electric vehicle, internally codenamed YMC, is an electric MPV built on the same Heartect-e skateboard platform as the e Vitara. It is expected to measure around 4.5 metres in length and offer a spacious cabin with a flat floor ideal for families. Battery options will likely mirror or closely follow the e Vitara’s 49 kWh and 61 kWh packs, delivering a claimed range of around 500 km or more (slightly lower due to the larger body). Powertrain components will be shared with the e Vitara. Launch is anticipated towards the end of 2026 or early 2027, with production at Maruti’s Gujarat facility and significant export potential. Expected pricing falls in the ₹18–25 lakh bracket. Features should include a large touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, connected car technology, and Level 2 ADAS. It will compete with models like the Kia Carens Clavis EV and position Maruti strongly in the mass-market electric MPV space.
4.Volvo EX90
Volvo’s flagship seven-seat electric SUV, the EX90, is confirmed for India and is expected to arrive in 2026 (reports suggest a possible August launch window). Built on the SPA2 architecture with an 800-volt electrical system, it offers luxurious three-row seating for up to seven occupants. Global battery options include packs around 92–111 kWh (or up to 106 kWh in some configurations), delivering dual-motor all-wheel-drive power outputs from roughly 333–689 hp and claimed WLTP ranges of up to 565–620 km. Fast charging capability reaches 350 kW. The cabin emphasizes Scandinavian minimalism with a large central touchscreen, Google-built-in services, over-the-air updates, panoramic glass roof, premium audio, and advanced safety systems including comprehensive ADAS. It will be imported as a CBU and positioned as a luxury offering, with expected pricing in the ₹1.20–1.50 crore range. Key rivals include the BMW iX, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, and Kia EV9.
5.Toyota Electric MPV
Toyota will offer a rebadged version of Maruti Suzuki’s YMC electric MPV as part of their ongoing collaboration. Sharing the same Heartect-e platform, battery packs (likely 49–61 kWh range), electric motors, and core underpinnings, the Toyota variant will differ primarily in exterior styling and branding to align with Toyota’s design language. It is expected to follow the Maruti YMC by several months to a year, with a possible late 2027 arrival. Seating for seven, a spacious family-oriented cabin, and similar range and feature sets (including advanced connectivity and safety tech) are anticipated. Pricing should be closely aligned with the Maruti version, targeting the same competitive mid-size electric MPV segment. This twin model will help both brands achieve higher production volumes and broader market coverage through shared manufacturing and exports
