Kia India is preparing an aggressive expansion of its product portfolio, with plans to offer 10 models by 2030. The strategy will not revolve around one propulsion technology alone; instead, the carmaker intends to offer electric, strong-hybrid, and other powertrain options tailored to Indian market realities and customer preferences.

Announced as part of Kia’s broader 2026 CEO Investor Day roadmap and reinforced in subsequent statements, the India-specific plan targets annual sales of approximately 4.1 lakh (410,000) units and a 7.6% market share by the end of the decade. To support this growth, Kia also aims to expand its retail network to around 800 outlets.

Kia’s approach prioritises flexibility. Of the planned 10 models, eight are expected to feature electrified powertrains—a mix of pure battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and strong hybrids (HEVs). This balanced strategy acknowledges varying infrastructure readiness, buyer preferences for range and convenience, and the need for affordable efficiency gains

Key elements already highlighted include:

  • Strong-hybrid Seltos: A hybrid version of the popular midsize SUV is under development, with localisation of hybrid components (including batteries, motors, and control units) prioritised to keep costs competitive. Launch is widely expected around 2027. An all-electric Seltos remains under evaluation but is not confirmed.
  • Syros EV: Kia’s more affordable mass-market electric SUV, already launched or in the process of rolling out, targeting the volume EV segment.
  • Sorento Hybrid: The premium three-row SUV, recently teased for India, will arrive as a strong hybrid and sit above the Seltos.
  • Carnival Hybrid: A hybrid version of the large MPV is planned before 2030.
  • Additional electrified options, potentially including hybrid variants of compact models such as the Sonet or further EV derivatives.

The company currently offers several EVs in India (including the EV6, EV9, Carens Clavis EV, and Syros EV). Expanding hybrids for high-volume models like the Seltos will help bridge the gap for customers not yet ready for full electrification. Factory-fitted CNG options are also under consideration as part of the multi-fuel strategy.

Seltos and Sonet remain central to volume growth. Kia is targeting annual sales of over 200,000 units each for these models by 2030, capitalising on the strong demand in the compact and midsize SUV segments that dominate the Indian market.

Localisation will play a critical role, particularly for hybrid systems, to improve affordability and competitiveness. Production facilities in India will also support both domestic sales and exports as part of Kia’s global supply strategy.

The 10-model target and electrification push form part of Kia’s larger global vision, which includes significant investment in EVs, hybrids, software-defined vehicles, and new mobility solutions. For India—identified as a cornerstone emerging market—the plan balances pure electric offerings for urban and early-adopter buyers with strong hybrids that deliver better fuel efficiency without requiring charging infrastructure.

As stricter emission norms approach and consumer interest in lower running costs grows, Kia’s diversified portfolio is designed to capture demand across segments—from affordable EVs and CNG models to premium three-row hybrids. Further details on specific launch timelines, powertrain specifications, and pricing will emerge as individual models near production readiness. With a clear multi-powertrain roadmap, expanded product range, and ambitious volume targets, Kia India is positioning itself for stronger growth through the rest of the decade while adapting to the unique dynamics of the Indian automotive market.
