New Kia Seltos 1.6 Hybrid with e-AWD Debuts in Europe with V2L and Advanced Regen Braking

Kia is expanding its popular compact SUV lineup in Europe with the second-generation Seltos, introducing a sophisticated hybrid powertrain for the first time on the continent. The new Kia Seltos 1.6 Hybrid stands out with an innovative e-AWD system, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, and smart regenerative braking technology.

Hybrid Powertrain with e-AWD Option

The European Seltos Hybrid is powered by a 1.6-litre GDI hybrid system. It delivers:

  • 154 hp in the front-wheel-drive (2WD) variant.
  • 178 hp in the flagship e-AWD version.

This marks the first time Kia has applied its e-AWD (electronic All-Wheel Drive) system to a hybrid model. The setup uses an additional electric motor on the rear axle for better traction, stability, and dynamic performance — especially useful on wet, icy, or uneven European roads.

A conventional 1.6-litre T-GDI petrol engine (around 180 hp) is also available with manual or dual-clutch automatic transmissions for buyers preferring a non-hybrid option.

Standout Features: V2L and Smart Regen Braking

The new Seltos Hybrid brings EV-like features to the hybrid segment:

  • Vehicle-to-Load (V2L): A first for Kia hybrids in Europe. It allows the vehicle to power external devices (laptops, camping gear, tools, etc.) directly from its high-voltage battery — turning the SUV into a mobile power source.
  • Smart Regenerative Braking System 3.0: This advanced regen braking system automatically adjusts braking force based on real-time conditions, including traffic flow, navigation data, road gradients, speed cameras, and upcoming obstacles like intersections or roundabouts. Paddle shifters let drivers manually control regen levels for a more engaging drive.

These technologies enhance efficiency while adding practical versatility for everyday and outdoor use

Design, Practicality, and European Tuning

The new Seltos features bold SUV styling inspired by Kia’s EV lineup, with a spacious cabin and up to 536 litres of boot space (hybrid models). Kia has specially tuned the suspension, steering, and chassis for European roads, prioritizing comfort, stability, and refined handling. Inside, expect modern features like dual 12.3-inch displays, advanced connectivity, and comprehensive safety systems.

Market Availability

Production of petrol versions begins in Q2 2026, with hybrid variants following shortly after. European customers can expect deliveries in the second half of 2026. In some markets like the UK, the Seltos will be offered exclusively in hybrid form.

Positioning in the Market

The electrified Seltos positions Kia strongly in the competitive C-SUV segment, offering a compelling mix of efficiency, capability, and practicality. With e-AWD hybrid power, V2L functionality, and smart regen braking, it bridges the gap between traditional SUVs and electrified vehicles. This European debut reinforces Kia’s commitment to accessible hybrid technology and could preview future powertrain options for other global markets, including India (expected in 2027 with a different hybrid setup).
