First unveiled earlier this year, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella marks Toyota’s official entry into the mass-market electric vehicle segment in India. The electric SUV is essentially a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, benefiting from the long-standing collaboration between the two Japanese automakers. It is now expected to go on sale in May 2026.
The Urban Cruiser Ebella comes with two battery options, both using robust LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) chemistry for better safety, longevity, and thermal performance:
- 49 kWh battery pack: Produces 106 hp and is ideal for buyers prioritizing efficiency in city conditions. It delivers an ARAI-certified range of around 440 km.
- 61 kWh battery pack: Paired with a more powerful 171.6 hp motor delivering 189 Nm of torque. This variant offers a claimed range of up to 543 km on a single charge (ARAI).
The Ebella will be available in both two-wheel-drive (2WD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations, providing flexibility for different driving needs and terrains. The LFP battery supports both AC home/work charging and DC fast charging, allowing for convenient daily use and quicker highway top-ups.
With the May 2026 launch window confirmed, Toyota is expected to reveal final on-road pricing, variant-wise specifications, and detailed warranty packages (including battery coverage) closer to the date. Bookings are already underway at Toyota dealerships across the country. The Ebella is positioned as a practical, family-friendly electric midsize SUV with modern features, strong real-world usability, and Toyota’s renowned reliability.
