Honda Cars India is set to make a significant move into the premium SUV segment with the launch of the ZR-V hybrid SUV on May 22, 2026. The fully imported CBU (Completely Built Unit) model will serve as the brand’s new flagship, positioned above the current lineup, including the Elevate and upcoming refreshed City sedan (also launching on the same day)

The ZR-V is expected to be priced in the Rs 40–50 lakh (ex-showroom) range, likely around Rs 45–50 lakh. It will compete directly with established players like the Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Kodiaq, and potentially models like the Jeep Meridian in the premium midsize SUV space.

Unlike volume-driven models, Honda is positioning the ZR-V primarily as a brand-builder and halo product. With limited volumes anticipated due to its CBU import status and premium pricing, the focus is on enhancing Honda’s image in India’s growing luxury and hybrid-conscious market rather than chasing high sales numbers.

The India-spec ZR-V will feature a 2.0-litre strong hybrid (e:HEV) system producing around 180–184 hp combined output and 315 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via an e-CVT transmission. This efficient setup is expected to deliver strong fuel economy, with global figures suggesting potential for 20+ kmpl in real-world Indian conditions.

The hybrid powertrain combines a 2.0-litre petrol engine with electric motors, offering smooth performance, instant torque, and excellent refinement — hallmarks of Honda’s e:HEV technology already proven in models like the City e:HEV in other markets.

The ZR-V is a stylish 5-seater midsize SUV (approximately 4.56 metres long) built on Honda’s architecture shared with the Civic and CR-V. It boasts a sleek, elegant design with premium appeal. Expected features include:

  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
  • Large touchscreen infotainment (around 9-inch)
  • Digital driver’s display
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Premium audio system
  • Powered seats and tailgate

The interior emphasizes practicality, ergonomics, and high-quality materials typical of Honda vehicles.

This launch marks Honda’s renewed push into the premium SUV segment in India. While the company has been strong in sedans and compact SUVs like the Elevate, the ZR-V represents an attempt to capture higher-margin buyers interested in hybrid technology, refinement, and brand prestige.

It also aligns with India’s shift toward more efficient and electrified powertrains ahead of stricter emission norms. Honda is additionally preparing its first electric SUV based on the 0 Series concepts for launch in the coming years.

On May 22, 2026, Honda is expected to reveal full specifications, variant-wise pricing, feature lists, and booking details for the ZR-V alongside the City facelift. Deliveries are likely to commence shortly after the launch.

The ZR-V could appeal to buyers seeking a refined, efficient, and premium Japanese alternative to European SUVs in the Rs 40–50 lakh bracket. Its success will be watched closely as an indicator of Honda’s ability to expand beyond its traditional strongholds in the Indian market.
