FADA Offers to Invest in EV Charging and Scrappage Infrastructure in Delhi, Proposes 150 Public Charging Stations

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has stepped forward with a proactive proposal to actively support Delhi’s transition to electric mobility. Instead of remaining mere retail stakeholders, automobile dealers are offering to directly invest in critical EV infrastructure, including charging stations and vehicle scrappage facilities.

FADA has proposed setting up 150 public EV charging stations across the national capital and is willing to fund the infrastructure in partnership with the Delhi government. The association has also expressed readiness to invest in vehicle scrappage infrastructure and skill development centres to create a more robust and inclusive EV ecosystem.

Speaking at the conclusion of Vyapar Delhi 2026, FADA highlighted that dealers want to be treated as key stakeholders in Delhi’s new EV Policy rather than passive players. The association emphasised that with over 550 dealership outlets in Delhi providing employment to more than 55,000 people and contributing significantly to state revenues, their active involvement is essential for a smooth and successful green mobility transition.

FADA President highlighted the sharp rise in EV adoption in the capital, including a 62% increase in electric two-wheeler sales, and stressed that dealers are ready to lead this change by investing in supporting infrastructure.

Key Proposals by FADA

  • 150 Public Charging Stations: Dealers will fund and set up these stations at their own cost or in public-private partnership mode to address range anxiety and boost consumer confidence.
  • Vehicle Scrappage Infrastructure: Establishment of authorised scrappage centres to support the government’s push for phasing out old, polluting vehicles in exchange for incentives on new EVs.
  • Skill Development Centres: Setting up training facilities at Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to build a skilled workforce for EV sales, service, and maintenance.
  • Dealer Inclusion in EV Policy: FADA has urged the Delhi government to formally include automobile dealers in the policy framework, ensuring their role in implementation, incentives, and ecosystem development is clearly defined.

This proposal comes at a time when Delhi is finalising its EV Policy 2026–2030, which focuses heavily on scrappage-linked incentives (up to ₹1 lakh for buyers scrapping old BS-IV cars when purchasing new EVs) and expanding charging infrastructure. The government has already mandated that new civic projects be EV-ready and is exploring ways to rapidly scale up public charging points.

FADA’s offer aligns well with the policy’s goals and could significantly accelerate infrastructure development without putting the entire burden on government funds. It also addresses concerns about dealer livelihoods during the shift to electric vehicles.

If accepted, FADA’s proposals could help Delhi achieve its ambitious targets for charging stations and faster scrappage of old vehicles. More importantly, it positions automobile dealers as proactive contributors to cleaner mobility, job creation, and skill development in the capital.

The move reflects a maturing EV ecosystem in India, where industry associations are moving beyond demands to offering concrete investments and partnerships with governments.Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has also urged dealers to play a bigger role in motivating customers to switch to EVs, signalling a collaborative approach between the government and the auto retail sector.

FADA’s proactive stance could set a precedent for other states to involve dealers more deeply in EV policy implementation.
