Honda Cars India is finally preparing to jump into the electric vehicle fray, unveiling its first all-electric (EV) passenger vehicle, which will be an SUV, in the Indian market soon. The vehicle, currently known as the Honda 0 Alpha, is set to make its production-spec debut on December 2, 2026. At the unveil event, the company is expected to give-out the car’s final name and technical specifications; customer deliveries are due to start in early 2027.The 0 Alpha will be a huge leap forward for Honda in India, as it marks the company’s first pure-electric passenger vehicle in the country and its first electric SUV anywhere in the world. The model was previewed initially at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025 and has been subjected to extensive pan-India road testing since March 2026. Prototypes have been tested on high-way, city-traffic and off-road conditions to be able to meet India’s diverse terrain requirements.
Manufacturing the vehicle will start at Honda’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, which will serve as one of the main manufacturing hubs for the model, to meet the demand from both the Indian market and exports, including potentially to Japan as well. This will show that India is now being taken by Honda not only as a market to sell cars, but also a base to build (export) cars for the global market.
Design-wise, the production model is expected to retain the concept model’s modern and upright SUV proportions, including the squared LED headlamps, aero wheels, vertically stacked LED taillights and clean overall look. Inside, the cabin will most probably feature a large freestanding touchscreen, a full digital instrument cluster and a mix of modern tech and traditional controls.
On the technical specifications front, details are not out yet, but one can expect at the December unveil to see a dedicated electric platform, which will feature an ultra-slim and lightweight design. Battery capacity is expected to be in the 65-75 kWh range, with a claimed driving range up to 400-500 km. The model will presumably launch initially with a single-motor, front-wheel-drive drivetrain and will feature DC fast-charging capability.
Powered by a dedicated electric platform, the 0 Alpha is expected to be a super-compact/mid-size EV SUV, which will slot directly into the same class as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti e Vitara, Mahindra BE 6 and other expected electric SUVs. Honda has announced that this model will be a part of the company’s plan to release multiple SUVs in India through 2030, signifying the company’s return to the growing SUV and electric vehicle segments.
As the December 2 debut approaches, the Honda 0 Alpha is set to carve out its niche in India’s competitive electric SUV market, featuring local manufacturing, potential to export and a dedicated electric platform to be launched on one of the world’s fastest-growing automotive markets.
