Volvo India has bolstered its electric vehicle lineup with the launch of the EX90, an all-electric flagship SUV priced at ₹1.26 crore (ex-showroom). Volvo Cars has positioned this Swedish luxury brand’s largest-selling electric vehicle in India as the range-topping model above the compact EX30 and the EC40. The EX90 is built on Volvo’s proprietary SPA2 electric vehicle architecture and is the pure-electric successor to the long-selling XC90. Available in India in 6-seater configuration only, the EX90 is powered by a 106 kWh battery and features a dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain that produces 456 hp and 670 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds and has a top speed of 180 km/h. The SUV has a claimed WLTP range of 625 km and can be charged up to 350 kW DC, supporting a 10-80% charge in 22 minutes, while an 11 kW AC wallbox takes around 11 hours to fully charge the battery.

The EX90 comes with a host of technology and safety features. Inside, the 14.5-inch vertical central touchscreen is complemented by a 9-inch digital driver display and the cabin is upholstered in two-tone Nappa leather with four-zone climate control. A 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system with Dolby Atmos surround sound is also available. The panoramic glass roof is switchable in tint, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, a 360-degree camera and automatic parking features. The EX90 has nine airbags and a comprehensive Level 2 ADAS system as standard kit, reflecting Volvo’s commitment to occupant safety.

The EX90 has a design that is modern in its take on the Volvo design language. Distinctive T-shaped LED headlamps with pixelated daytime running lights frame a closed front bumper, while C-shaped LED tail-lamps are joined by a black strip at the rear. EX90 comes standard with 21-inch alloy wheels and air suspension that allows a ground clearance of 210 mm, but can be raised to 250 mm when required. At 5,037 mm long and with a 2,985 mm wheelbase, the EX90 offers a three-row, 2+2+2 captain’s chair cabin in India.

At ₹1.26 crore, the EX90 is ₹27.2 lakh more expensive than the petrol/diesel XC90 but is cheaper than some of its key rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 (₹1.49 crore) and Kia EV9 (₹1.30 crore). Bookings for the EX90 are now open across Volvo dealerships, with customer test drives due to start in November 2026, with deliveries commencing in January 2027. Customers who book the EX90 before 31 December 2026 will receive an introductory ownership package that includes an 11 kW home charger, a three-year service package and an assured buyback scheme that covers 65% residual value after three years

Looking ahead, Volvo is set to bolster its premium electric vehicle portfolio with the launch of the flagship ES90 electric sedan next quarter. Using the same SPA2 electric vehicle architecture with an 800-volt architecture, the ES90 electric sedan will be the first Volvo to enter the luxury sedan segment in India since the discontinuation of the S90. The ES90 is expected to offer best-in-class range with up to 696 km (WLTP) and similar dual-motor powertrain options as its ICE rivals. Its arrival is expected to put Volvo in a strong position against the likes of the BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz EQE in the burgeoning luxury electric sedan segment.

The EX90 and the upcoming ES90 electric sedan showcase Volvo’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the Indian luxury EV market with premium, software-defined electric vehicles that offer greater range, technology, safety and driving dynamics.
