Zeon Upgrades Sky Bird Charging Station in Hassan With High-Power 400 kW Ultra-Fast Chargers

Zeon has recently upgraded its Sky Bird charging station in Hassan, Karnataka with high-power electric vehicle charging hardware. Eight charging guns with high-power charging solutions from Alpitronic and KemPower have been installed at the facility. The upgrades are part of the effort to promote the adoption of electric cars on the country’s roadways.

The recent upgrade to Zeon’s Sky Bird charging station in Hassan bears significance for electric car owners who make long-distance travel on a regular basis. Hassan serves as an important waypoint for motorists, and the new high-power charging solutions can offer convenience to those who commute on these roads. With eight charging guns at the upgraded station, electric car owners have more options to choose from when it comes to recharging their vehicles.

The upgraded Sky Bird charging station features two charging guns with a 400 kW ultra-fast charging solution from Alpitronic. The solution has a current rating of 375A and 600A boost. The station also has two charging guns with another 400 kW Alpritronic ultra-fast charging solution with 500A of current, 600A boost, and liquid-cooled charging cables. The new high-power charging solutions bring cutting-edge technology to the charging station, putting it at the forefront of high-power DC fast-charging in the region. This prepares the upgraded station to serve electric cars with high-power charging capabilities.

The liquid-cooled charging cables integrated into the Alpitronic ultra-fast charging solutions are significant to the performance of the station. They allow the charging solutions to handle the huge amount of current needed to charge electric cars at higher power ratings. The use of liquid-cooled charging cables also makes the charging process more convenient, as the size and weight of the cable would be more manageable at higher power levels. However, the convenience of high-power charging solutions would depend on the specifications of the electric car being charged. This is because the car’s onboard charging system also determines how much current it can handle.

In addition to the Alpitronic ultra-fast charging solutions, the Zeon Sky Bird charging station also has a 200 kW KemPower charging solution with four charging guns. Two of the charging guns have a current rating of 200A each, while the other two have a current rating of 300A each. Altogether, the four charging guns provide multiple options for electric car owners who want to recharge their vehicles at the upgraded station.

With eight charging guns, four of which have a current rating of up to 300A, the upgraded Sky Bird charging station has been upgraded to provide more flexibility to electric car owners in Hassan. However, the number of amps available at any given time at the charging guns depends on the configuration of the individual charging guns. Therefore, the amount of current an electric car can draw from a charging gun at the upgraded station depends on various factors.

It is also worth noting that the upgraded Zeon charging station in Hassan has been spotted accommodating a variety of electric cars. The Tata Curvv EV and MG Windsor EV electric cars have been seen plugged into the high-power charging solutions at the upgraded station. This demonstrates the importance of the upgraded facility to current and prospective electric car owners in India. The Tata Curvv EV is a prime example of an electric car that has been designed to meet the needs of modern motorists. The vehicle combines the performance of an electric powertrain with the comfort of an SUV-coupe. In contrast, the MG Windsor EV focuses on space, offering a larger cabin than most other electric cars in its class.

It is important to understand that just because an electric car is connected to a 400 kW charging solution does not mean it will charge at 400 kW. The vehicle’s onboard charging system determines how much current it can handle. In addition, the current capacity of an electric car is also determined by its battery. The battery’s thermal management system also dictates how much current can flow into the battery, thus determining how fast the vehicle can charge. As a result, not all electric cars are capable of taking advantage of high-power charging solutions.

When traveling on long-haul trips, the convenience of a road trip can be dictated by how much range the car has and how much range it can regain at a charging station. In some cases, the right choice of charging station can make a bigger difference, especially when the car is not capable of handling the max current rating of a fast-charging station. This is because having multiple charging guns with different current ratings allows more flexibility, especially when multiple electric car owners have to share the same charging station. Equally important is the reliability of the charging solutions, which can also dictate the convenience of the road trip.

India’s public charging station infrastructure is set to expand significantly in the coming years, as automakers continue to roll out electric cars with bigger battery packs and faster charging capabilities. While home charging solutions can suffice for most daily commutes, long-haul road trips will continue to require the use of highway DC fast-charging stations. Upgrading public fast-charging stations to higher-power solutions will also become important, as it will allow them to keep up with the charging capabilities of new electric cars. As such, Zeon’s recent upgrade to its Sky Bird charging station in Hassan is definitely a welcome development to the growing list of public fast-charging stations in Karnataka.
