Hyundai Motor Company and TVS Motor Company are finalizing plans for their jointly developed electric three-wheeler, with a commercial launch now targeting late 2027 or early 2028. The vehicle, known internally as U834, will be co-engineered by the partners and produced at TVS Motor’s facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. India will be the initial market, with other international markets also likely to adopt three-wheelers for last-mile mobility.

The programme proposes two versions of the electric three-wheeler, with a combined monthly production capacity of 3,000 to 4,000 units at the planned production levels. This would equate to between 36,000 and 48,000 vehicles annually. These are production-planning numbers, not first-year sales targets. An initial prototype build is scheduled for early 2027, with series production expected to start towards the end of that year.

Hyundai is taking responsibility for the design, while co-engineering the vehicle with TVS Motor. The Indian company will handle manufacturing, the supply chain, marketing, sales and after-sales service. The collaboration will draw on Hyundai’s design and development strengths and TVS Motor’s existing electric three-wheeler platform, engineering and knowledge of the local operating environment in India. Components are to be sourced and produced locally to help meet cost, supply-chain and service-support requirements.

The project builds on a joint development agreement signed by the two companies in April 2026. That agreement formalised work that began following the unveiling of the E3W concept at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January 2025. The concept demonstrated features appropriate to the Indian operating environment, including adjustable ground clearance for monsoon-affected roads, enhanced thermal management for tropical climates and adaptable interior configurations for passenger-transport, goods-delivery or emergency-response roles.

For Hyundai, the collaboration represents an expansion of its presence in Indian mobility into the three-wheeler segment, the world’s largest such market. For TVS Motor, it uses existing expertise in electric three-wheelers and manufacturing infrastructure at Hosur. The partners have stressed that localisation will be a key focus of the programme, supporting the domestic automotive sector while positioning the vehicle for domestic sales and potential exports. Technical specifications, battery capacity, range figures and pricing have not been disclosed as development proceeds towards a planned late-2027 to early-2028 launch.
