The Delhi government’s Electric Vehicle Policy 2026 has witnessed an overwhelming response, with 5,678 applications for purchase incentives since its launch on July 1. Out of these, 1,664 applications have been processed and a total sum of Rs 4.8 crore has been distributed to the beneficiaries who purchased different categories of vehicles. The remaining 4,014 applications are currently under the verification and processing procedure.
Electric two-wheelers have occupied a major chunk of the demand. According to the government data, out of the total number of applications that have come in, 5,621 people have applied for two-wheelers. Of the processed applications, 1,648 beneficiaries were availing this segment and accounted for Rs 4.6 crore of the total incentive amount released so far.
Under the policy, eligible buyers of electric two-wheelers can claim an incentive of Rs 30,000 on the first-year purchase. This amount goes down to Rs 20,000 on the second year and Rs 10,000 on the third year. For eligible buyers of three-wheelers, the incentives range from Rs 50,000, Rs 40,000 and Rs 30,000 for the same period. Eligible buyers of electric cars priced at Rs 30 lakh and below can enjoy a complete waiver on the road tax and registration charges. In addition, the policy provides for a scrapping incentive of Rs 1 lakh for the owners of eligible BS-IV and older cars and Rs 10,000 for older two-wheelers who purchase a new vehicle under the scheme.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta unveiled the portal for the submission of applications for the incentive on July 3, enabling people to apply directly after registering their electric vehicles in the capital. The response, especially for two-wheelers, indicates a growing inclination towards cleaner vehicles as Delhi moves towards its goal of cutting down vehicular pollution and promoting electric vehicles as part of the broader four-year roadmap till March 2030.
