Honda has applied for the patent of the QC3 electric scooter, which offers a unique cruiser-like design not present in the current lineup of electric two-wheelers in India. Although most of the competitors have gone for the standard sporty design, Honda’s QC3 promises to be a good alternative for buyers searching for a different kind of electric scooter if it reaches the market.
Honda has already launched the scooter in Vietnam and Thailand, so the Indian buyers would have a fair idea about what to expect from the electric vehicle in terms of design. The company has equipped the scooter with a 3.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, which enables the QC3 to cover a distance of 122 km on a single charge. It produces a peak power of 6 kW, which helps propel the scooter to a maximum speed of 120 km/h. The QC3 gets 12-inch wheels, a 26-liter under-seat storage battery, three riding modes, and a 5-inch TFT meter. Weighing just 130 kg, it promises to be highly agile and offers decent cargo space.
The QC3 promises to be a flexible option when it comes to charging. With the standard 450 W charger, it would take around five hours to charge from 20 to 80 percent, while the optional 1,200 W charger would slash the charging time to two hours. This makes sense, considering most of the buyers looking to buy an electric scooter would want something versatile for their day-to-day commuting needs.
While the patent filing does not guarantee that the QC3 would reach Indian buyers, there is a good chance that it would eventually launch in the country. After all, Honda filed for the patent in India, which means that the company is considering the entry of the QC3 in the country. If it does, it would most probably cost around Rs 1.3 lakh. Considering the price, cruiser-like design, and the performance on offer, it would be a competitive electric scooter in the segment. For now, it is just an indication of Honda’s intent to expand its presence in the electric two-wheeler segment in India, where the company is eyeing substantial growth and aims to capitalise on the shift away from petrol vehicles.
