However, sales declined by around 11% from the record 2,05,629 units registered in July 2026.

Despite the month-on-month decline, August remained one of the strongest months for India’s electric two-wheeler industry. The segment has now recorded around 13.6 lakh electric two-wheeler sales between January and August 2026, putting the industry on track to cross the two-million-unit annual milestone for the first time.

TVS Motor Retains the Top Spot

TVS Motor continued to lead India’s electric two-wheeler market in August 2026. The company sold 48,873 electric two-wheelers, representing a 91% year-on-year increase. TVS held approximately 27% market share during the month. The company’s electric scooter portfolio, particularly the TVS iQube and Orbiter, has helped it maintain strong volumes across different price segments. TVS had also recorded its best-ever monthly EV performance in July, with 55,823 units, making August’s result a sequential decline but still a significant annual improvement. For January-August 2026, TVS recorded 3,56,579 electric two-wheeler sales, giving it approximately 26% of India’s e-2W market. The company has already surpassed its entire 2025 electric two-wheeler sales figure.

Bajaj Chetak Remains Strong at No. 2

Bajaj Auto continued to hold the second position with 41,019 electric two-wheeler sales in August 2026. The company registered an impressive 235% year-on-year increase, although the comparison was against a relatively low August 2025 base. The Chetak range remains Bajaj’s key electric two-wheeler product, and the company crossed the 3 lakh-unit sales milestone during 2026 by the end of August. Bajaj’s January-August sales reached 3,05,226 units, giving it approximately 22% of the overall electric two-wheeler market.

Ather Energy Continues Its Growth

Sales were lower than July’s 22,989 units, but the brand continues to show strong annual growth. India’s Electric Two-Wheeler Market Heads Towards 20 Lakh Units

The August 2026 sales performance highlights the growing acceptance of electric two-wheelers in India. TVS, Bajaj, Ather and Vida together accounted for about 75% of August’s electric two-wheeler sales, showing the increasing dominance of established manufacturers in the segment.

Between January and August, India’s electric two-wheeler market reached approximately 13.6 lakh units, while the top four manufacturers alone crossed 10.38 lakh units. Their combined sales were already higher than their entire 2025 sales by more than 1.16 lakh units.

With the festive season approaching, manufacturers are expected to benefit from higher consumer demand, new electric scooter launches and more competitive financing and Battery-as-a-Service options. If the current momentum continues through the final four months of the year, India’s electric two-wheeler market could cross the 20-lakh annual sales milestone in 2026.
