VinFast’s VF6 Storms into India as the Most Affordable Electric SUV Above 4 Metres, Packing Premium Features, 468km Range, and Free Charging Till 2028 to Disrupt the EV Market

Vietnamese carmaker VinFast has entered India with a bang thanks to the aggressive pricing for its EVs including the VF6 and of course free charging till 2028 (via its V-Green charging stations). However, can the VF6 take on the current crop of EVs and compete with the established compact SUVs out there? Here is a first look from the launch floor.

VinFast is a Vietnam-based carmaker but is also part of the Vingroup, which has other businesses as well. In India, we can expect the Vingroup to venture into some of those while for now, it has launched the first two VinFast cars in India, which are the VF6 and VF7. The brand assembles the cars in Tamil Nadu and has invested heavily into EV manufacturing for the long-term future.

Launched on September 6, 2025, the VF6 positions itself as a disruptor in the sub-₹20 lakh electric SUV segment, undercutting rivals with its starting price and a slew of buyer incentives. Measuring 4,241mm in length, it qualifies as the most affordable EV SUV above 4 metres, blending coupe-like styling with practical features tailored for Indian roads.

VinFast VF6 Pricing and Offers

VinFast is pulling no punches on value. The VF6 is available in three variants: Earth, Wind, and Wind Infinity, priced from ₹16.49 lakh to ₹18.29 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). This makes it cheaper than key competitors like the Tata Curvv EV (starting ₹17.49 lakh) and Mahindra BE 6 (₹18.90 lakh). To sweeten the deal, every VF6 purchase includes free charging at V-Green stations until July 2028, alongside a 10-year assured warranty and three years of free maintenance. VinFast plans to roll out over 2,000 V-Green chargers across India by 2026, focusing on highways and urban hubs. This lifetime-like perk could slash running costs by up to 50% for early adopters, making the VF6 a compelling proposition in a market where charging infrastructure remains patchy.

VinFast VF6 Exterior Design and Engineering – 8/10

Sleek coupe-SUV profile turns heads; compact dimensions suit city agility. From the launch floor, the VF6’s design screams youthful energy with its fastback silhouette and clean, aerodynamic lines. At 4,241mm long, 1,834mm wide, 1,615mm tall, and with a 2,730mm wheelbase, it’s compact yet spacious enough for urban Indian families. The front features a closed-off grille flanked by slim LED projector headlights and distinctive V-shaped LED DRLs that echo the brand’s logo, flowing into a sculpted bonnet.

Sides highlight the sloping roofline, flush door handles, and chunky black cladding around the wheel arches for a rugged touch. It rolls on 19-inch dual-tone alloys, with a ground clearance of around 170mm—adequate for speed breakers but not off-road adventures. The rear boasts a connected LED light bar mirroring the front DRLs, a roof-mounted spoiler, and subtle creases for visual drama. Eight colour options, from vibrant Urban Mint to sophisticated Infinity Blanc, add flair.

Built on VinFast’s dedicated EV platform, the VF6 emphasizes lightweight aluminum construction for better efficiency. The LFP battery pack is floor-mounted, lowering the center of gravity for stable handling. While it lacks the muscular stance of a Creta, its futuristic vibe could lure younger buyers seeking something different.

VinFast VF6 Interior and Comfort – 8/10

Minimalist cabin with premium touches; tech-heavy but rear space is cozy.Stepping inside reveals a driver-focused cockpit with soft-touch materials and dual-tone upholstery options in all-black or mocha brown. There’s no traditional instrument cluster—instead, all info beams onto a massive 12.9-inch floating touchscreen running VinFast’s OS with integrated Google apps, voice commands, and wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay. Ambient lighting and a fixed panoramic sunroof create an airy feel, while dual-zone AC with rear vents and an air purifier tackle India’s humid climes.Front seats offer 8-way power adjustment for the driver (ventilated in higher trims), but the cabin feels snug for three abreast. Rear legroom is decent for the class, though the coupe roofline pinches headroom for taller passengers. Boot space measures 423 litres, expandable by folding the 60:40 rear seats. Practical touches like a cooled glovebox and multiple USB ports abound, but the minimalist layout might overwhelm Luddites.

VinFast VF6 Performance and Range – 7/10

Peppy single-motor FWD; real-world range to be tested.Powered by a single front-axle electric motor, the VF6 delivers 174 bhp and 250 Nm in the base Earth trim, scaling to 201 bhp in the Wind variants. Expect 0-100 km/h in around 8 seconds—brisk for city sprints without the drama of RWD setups. The single-speed transmission ensures smooth one-pedal driving, with adjustable regen via paddles. The 59.6 kWh LFP battery claims 468 km ARAI range, but expect 350-400 km in mixed conditions based on similar EVs. LFP chemistry promises longevity and safety, with no cobalt concerns. We couldn’t road-test yet, but VinFast’s tuning prioritizes efficiency over outright thrills.

VinFast VF6 Charging and Efficiency

Quick DC top-ups and home-friendly AC; free network eases range anxiety.Charging is straightforward: 10-70% in 25 minutes via 150 kW DC fast chargers, or a full AC charge overnight with the 11 kW onboard unit. The V-Green network, starting with 100 stations at launch, will expand rapidly, and the free-until-2028 offer covers unlimited kWh— a game-changer for highway warriors.Efficiency hovers at 15-18 kWh/100 km, keeping costs under ₹2 per km even without the perk.

VinFast VF6 Safety and Tech – 8/10

Level-2 ADAS suite; robust build with seven airbags.Safety gets a premium nod with up to seven airbags, ESC, and all-disc brakes. Level-2 ADAS includes adaptive cruise, lane-keep assist, and forward collision warning, projected via a head-up display. A 360-degree camera with dynamic guidelines aids parking in tight spots, complemented by front/rear sensors and rain-sensing wipers.Tech shines with OTA updates, connected services for remote preconditioning, and NFC keyless entry. The 16-speaker audio system (in top trims) supports Dolby Atmos, turning commutes into concerts.

Can the VF6 Compete?

In a segment dominated by Tata’s Curvv EV, Mahindra’s BE 6, MG’s ZS EV, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta Electric, the VF6’s edge lies in pricing and perks. It undercuts all on cost while matching features, but its unproven reliability and nascent service network could deter conservative buyers. Against ICE compacts like the Hyundai Venue or Kia Seltos, the free charging bridges the TCO gap, potentially swaying fleet operators.

VinFast VF6 Verdict

Overall First Impression: 8/10The VF6 isn’t just an entry—it’s VinFast’s bold stake in India’s EV race. With disruptive pricing, a feature-laden package, and that unbeatable charging offer, it has the potential to shake up the market. Early adopters get a stylish, efficient SUV with global backing, but wait for real-world feedback on build quality and support. If VinFast delivers on its promises, the VF6 could be the spark that ignites mass EV adoption. Book a test drive; this Vietnamese import might just redefine affordable electrification.
