Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast is expanding its electric two-wheeler footprint in India: the company has signed 50+ letters of intent (LoIs) with dealer partners, covering 34 cities across 15 states and territories as it looks to establish a dedicated distribution network ahead of the launch of its electric two-wheeler business.
The planned expansion supports VinFast’s ambitions to build a broader footprint in India’s fast-growing electric mobility market, where demand for electric two-wheelers is rising.
Under the dealerships, VinFast will partner with local dealer partners to cover 34 cities across 15 states and territories, expanding the reach of its products beyond large metro areas and capitalizing on opportunities in other urban centers.
India is an important electric mobility market driven by a desire among customers to reduce the cost of ownership and the growing awareness of the benefits of electric vehicles and the gradual emergence of the supporting infrastructure. The two-wheeler segment, in particular electric scooters and motorcycles, has attracted a number of manufacturers looking to capitalize on the popularity of two-wheelers among everyday commuters and those looking to replace their petrol vehicles with electric ones.
For VinFast, establishing a dedicated dealership network will be key to building out its electric two-wheeler business, with a wide retail presence enabling the company to drive accessibility, engagement and after-sales support as it looks to strengthen its position in the Indian market.
The latest dealer agreements come as VinFast is vying to establish a greater footprint in India’s electric vehicle market and is set to leverage its own electric two-wheeler business as it seeks to bolster its offerings and capabilities in the region.
However, the letters of intent represent planned dealership expansion and the final opening dates, showroom locations and details of the electric two-wheeler models to be offered through the network have yet to be fully disclosed.
With more than 50 proposed electric two-wheeler showrooms across 34 cities, VinFast is laying the groundwork for a wider retail presence in India. The success of this strategy will depend on the company’s product portfolio, pricing, dealer execution and ability to build customer confidence in its electric two-wheelers.
