VinFast Accelerates into India: From Market Entry to Ambitious 2026 Expansion

The Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast made its official debut in the Indian market in September 2025 with the launch of two premium electric SUVs: the VF6 and VF7. These models, locally assembled at the company’s new plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, mark the beginning of VinFast’s aggressive push into one of the world’s fastest-growing EV markets.

The VF6, a compact electric SUV priced starting at around ₹16.49 lakh, offers a 59.6 kWh battery with up to 480 km of range and features like a 12.9-inch touchscreen, advanced safety systems, and modern styling tailored for urban Indian families.

The larger VF7, starting at approximately ₹20.89 lakh, provides more power, optional all-wheel drive, and premium amenities, positioning it against competitors like the Tata Harrier EV and Mahindra XEV 9e.

VinFast’s entry has been supported by a growing dealership network (aiming for 35 outlets by end-2025), attractive ownership packages including extended warranties and free charging, and a commitment to local manufacturing.

Bold Plans for 2026: Expanding the Portfolio

VinFast has confirmed its intention to bring more of its global lineup to India, with at least three new electric models expected in 2026. The company is evaluating its full portfolio and plans new launches every six months to cater to diverse segments.

Key upcoming models include:

  • VinFast VF3: A compact micro EV designed for city commuting, rivaling the MG Comet EV. With its boxy, rugged styling, small footprint, and claimed range over 200 km, it could be priced between ₹8-10 lakh and may include battery-as-a-service options.
  • VinFast Limo Green: A practical 7-seater electric MPV set for launch around February 2026. Featuring a minimalist design, spacious interior, and around 450 km range, it’s aimed at families and fleet operators, with expected pricing of ₹22-26 lakh. It will compete with models like the BYD eMax 7 and upcoming Kia Carens Clavis EV.
  • VinFast VF9: The flagship full-size electric SUV under evaluation for India. With dual motors delivering over 400 hp, a large battery for extended range, and luxury features, it targets the premium segment (potential pricing ₹65-75 lakh) against rivals like the Kia EV9.

VinFast’s strategy emphasizes premium quality, advanced technology, and sustainability, backed by investments in local production and infrastructure. As India’s EV adoption grows, the brand’s rapid expansion could intensify competition and offer consumers more innovative choices in green mobility.

With these launches, VinFast is poised to establish itself as a major player in India’s electric future.
