UltraTech Cement Limited, India’s largest cement manufacturer, has taken a significant step towards sustainable logistics by deploying 45 electric heavy-duty trucks for clinker transportation in Northern India. The move, executed in partnership with Energy In Motion (EIM), is one of the largest deployments of electric heavy-duty trucks in the cement sector in the region.

The electric trucks will operate on a 250-kilometre route spanning three states, facilitating the efficient movement of clinker — a critical raw material in cement production. This initiative is expected to deliver substantial environmental benefits, with projections indicating an annual reduction of over 8,900 tonnes of CO₂ emissions

This deployment underscores UltraTech’s strong commitment to decarbonising its logistics operations. The company has been steadily expanding its electric vehicle fleet as part of broader sustainability goals, including a target to deploy 500 electric trucks by mid-2025 under the Government of India’s eFAST initiative. By shifting from conventional diesel trucks to electric ones, UltraTech aims to significantly lower its carbon footprint while also reducing operational costs related to fuel and maintenance in the long run.

The partnership with Energy In Motion (EIM) brings advanced electric heavy-duty truck technology suited for demanding industrial applications like clinker transport. These vehicles are designed to handle heavy loads reliably over long routes, addressing one of the biggest challenges in electrifying freight logistics in India.

This latest deployment adds to UltraTech’s growing momentum in green mobility. Earlier initiatives included smaller fleets of electric trucks, and the company continues to scale up adoption across its extensive supply chain network. As India pushes for greener industrial practices, such large-scale electrification projects in the cement industry set a strong precedent for other sectors with high logistics emissions.

UltraTech’s initiative not only supports national climate goals but also demonstrates how heavy industries can balance operational efficiency with environmental responsibility. With improving charging infrastructure and supportive government policies, the adoption of electric trucks for industrial use is expected to accelerate in the coming years.

This deployment marks another milestone in UltraTech’s journey towards net-zero emissions and reinforces its position as a leader in sustainable cement manufacturing in India.
