Tesla has unveiled a pre-production prototype of its upcoming all-electric Roadster that utilises an underbody suction fan plus optional air-thrusters to enable it to perform airborne manoeuvres. The electric sports car is set to enter production in 2028 and already accepts pre-orders in India for Rs 5 lakh.
Tesla’s upcoming Roadster model will undoubtedly be one of the most anticipated electric vehicles as the company has released a pre-production prototype featuring cutting-edge technology for enhanced performance and futuristic driving modes. The new Roadster will be available in multiple variants, including the standard Performance grade and two optional ‘augment’ packages called Thrust and Rocket.
The upcoming electric car will supposedly offer the power of a high-performance electric sports car plus ‘aerodynamic performance technologies’ to improve handling and acceleration. Although the production model will be available only in a few years, Tesla’s latest developments give us an insight into the features the company has planned for its highly anticipated Roadster.
One of the most surprising elements of the prototype is the suction fan at the front underside of the car, which is designed to create extra adhesion. The innovative technology could provide drivers with enhanced control over the powerful electric vehicle, fundamentally changing driving dynamics and enabling the car to perform at its best on the road.
Another notable highlight of the prototype is the optional air-thruster system, which allows the Roadster to execute airborne manoeuvres. The futuristic feature is only available in the top-grade variant, which Tesla has dubbed ‘Rocket’. The optional system will provide an insight into how far Tesla can push the capabilities of an electric sports car, however, how much it can utilise the technology will be determined by its production specifications.
In India, potential buyers can pre-book the standard Performance variant of the new Roadster and the optional Thrust package for Rs 5 lakh. Customers can express their interest in the high-performance electric vehicle ahead of its production launch, although the specifications and official pricing will be revealed closer to the launch date. However, the Rocket-grade variant will be available only through Tesla’s invite-only programme.
Tesla Roadster production is set to commence in 2028, which means there are still a few years to go before the first units reach customers. Similar to other electric vehicles, the specifications of the Roadster could change before its production launch, meaning the final product may differ from the prototype.
Futuristic features such as the suction fan and optional air-thrusters highlight the performance credentials of Tesla’s upcoming Roadster. The new electric car will undoubtedly be one of the most powerful sports cars on the market when it goes on sale in 2028. In India, the pre-booking of the standard Performance variant and optional Thrust package cost Rs 5 lakh, which will undoubtedly attract many customers interested in the high-performance electric car.
