Tata Motors is gearing up to bring back the iconic Sierra nameplate in its all-electric avatar. The Tata Sierra EV is now confirmed to hit Indian showrooms in the first quarter of FY27 — that is, between April and June 2026.
Industry sources indicate that the upcoming electric SUV will share significant similarities with the upcoming Tata Harrier EV, especially in terms of its underlying architecture and powertrain components. This shared DNA is expected to help Tata streamline development and keep costs competitive in the fast-growing mid-size electric SUV segment.
According to early reports, the Tata Sierra EV is likely to be offered with two battery pack options, giving buyers a choice between range and affordability. It is also expected to come with an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variant, which would make it one of the more capable electric SUVs in its class for Indian road conditions.
The Sierra EV is built on Tata’s advanced Acti.ev platform, the same flexible architecture used in models like the Curvv EV. While official specifications are yet to be revealed, expectations point toward battery sizes in the range of 55–65 kWh (with possible larger options going up to 75 kWh, similar to the Harrier EV). This setup could deliver a real-world driving range of 400–500+ km on a single charge, depending on the variant.
Positioned as a more lifestyle-oriented and slightly more accessible electric SUV compared to the larger Harrier EV, the Sierra EV will go head-to-head with rivals such as the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, and Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. Its retro-modern design, spacious cabin, and strong focus on practicality are expected to appeal to both urban families and adventure enthusiasts.
With the ICE version of the new Tata Sierra already generating strong interest, the electric variant is likely to further boost the nameplate’s revival in the EV era.
Tata Motors is expected to reveal more technical details, exact battery capacities, performance figures, features, and pricing closer to the launch. The company is also working on fast-charging capabilities and a comprehensive suite of safety and comfort features to make the Sierra EV a well-rounded package.
