Tata Motors Working on All-New Electric SUV Codenamed Kuno for 2027-28 Launch

Tata Motors is developing a new electric SUV, which is codenamed Kuno. While no formal announcement has been made, initial reports suggest the car could be a competitor to the current MG Windsor. It will be around 4.2m long, so will fall into the compact mid-size SUV market. This makes it accessible to many urban and family buyers as they’ll have a practical electric SUV.

It’ll also fit perfectly into Tata’s electric range. It’ll likely fall between their Nexon EV and new Sierra EV. This means they can provide a fresh take on the market with a compact SUV, but still provide a modern electric vehicle without too much overlap between the Nexon EV and Sierra EV. It’ll be based on Tata’s Acti.ev platform.

The same platform will be used for the Sierra EV. This will allow Tata to be efficient with development, providing a smooth driving experience with efficient space and performance. Being a shared platform also means parts can be shared between models. The car is expected to launch between 2027-28, giving Tata Motors plenty of time to develop the car, thoroughly test it and get production ready. However, until Tata Motors officially confirm this, everything is based on reports. The images below show what we imagine the Kuno may look like.

The design was conceptualised to give a fresh take on Tata’s design while still fitting with their current aesthetic. Sleek lines, modern front end and practical yet stylish design were all considered. If it does go ahead with this project it means Tata will be in a strong position to compete in the booming electric vehicle market.

They’ll have an electric SUV with a good size and shared platform. This electric SUV will target one of the most competitive segments. For buyers looking for an alternative to current electric SUVs like the MG Windsor, they may be very interested in this new Tata option.
