Tata Motors has kicked off a crucial phase in its electric vehicle roadmap by commencing platform testing for its much-awaited Avinya EV range. In a significant development, a heavily camouflaged test mule based on the Exeed Sterra ET was recently spotted undergoing rigorous testing on Indian roads, marking the first real-world validation of Tata’s upcoming advanced EV platform
The camouflaged prototype, believed to be powered by Tata’s new-generation EV architecture, is being used as an engineering test bed. The Exeed Sterra ET (a product from Chery’s premium Exeed brand) is serving as a donor vehicle to test key components such as the battery pack, electric motors, thermal management system, chassis dynamics, and software integration under Indian driving conditions.This approach allows Tata’s engineers to rapidly validate the new platform’s performance, reliability, and suitability for Indian roads before developing dedicated Avinya models.
Avinya is Tata Motors’ upcoming premium electric vehicle family, expected to sit above the current Nexon, Curvv, and Harrier/Safari EV line-ups. The range will be built on a new dedicated EV platform that promises:
- Longer range (potentially 500+ km)
- Faster charging capabilities
- Advanced software and ADAS features
- Improved interior space and luxury appeal
The Avinya series is strategically important for Tata as it aims to compete in the premium electric SUV and crossover segments against global as well as domestic rivals.
