Tata Motors Delivers First Batch of Electric Prima E.55S Prime Movers to BillionE Mobility; Secures Order for 250 Additional Units

Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, has commenced deliveries of its advanced Prima E.55S electric prime movers to BillionE Mobility. The company also announced a follow-on order for 250 additional electric prime movers, highlighting the accelerating adoption of zero-emission solutions in India’s heavy-duty freight segment.

The first batch—reportedly consisting of around 30 trucks—was formally handed over in a ceremony attended by senior leaders from both organisations. Key attendees included:

  • Mr. Girish Wagh, Managing Director & CEO, Tata Motors Ltd.
  • Mr. Kartikey Hariyani, Founder, BillionE Mobility and ChargeZone
  • Mr. Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks, Tata Motors Ltd.

The fleet will be delivered in a phased manner over the coming months and deployed on major freight corridors spanning Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi-NCR, and Haryana. These electric prime movers will primarily support the long-haul transportation of industrial goods such as steel, cement, and other bulk commodities, helping reduce carbon emissions in critical supply chains.

BillionE Mobility has outlined ambitious plans, targeting a broader pipeline of deployments over 6 to 18 months with a goal of scaling up to around 1,500 heavy-duty electric units.

The Prima E.55S is built on Tata Motors’ advanced i-MoEV electric vehicle architecture. It features:

  • A large 450 kWh battery pack — one of the highest in its class in India
  • A real-world range of up to 350 km on a single charge
  • An integrated e-axle with full-electric drivetrain and regenerative braking
  • 3-speed Auto Shift transmission
  • Dual-gun fast-charging capability
  • Advanced safety systems, including Driver Monitoring System, Lane Departure Warning, Tyre Pressure Monitoring, Electronic Braking System, and optional ADAS

The premium Prima cabin is designed for enhanced driver comfort during long-haul operations.

Kartikey Hariyani, Founder of BillionE Mobility and ChargeZone (along with Sanjeev Kulkarni, CEO, BillionE Mobility), stated:
“The Tata Prima E.55S delivers the performance, reliability, and operational efficiency required for intensive logistics solutions. We are pleased to induct the Prima E.55S 450 kWh, India’s largest in-class battery capacity, to strengthen our long-haul logistics capabilities.

”Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks, Tata Motors Ltd., added:
“Our close collaboration with BillionE Mobility has ensured alignment across the vehicle and the supporting ecosystem, enabling dependable electric operations across key freight corridors.”

This delivery and the additional order represent a significant milestone in the electrification of heavy-duty trucking in India. By deploying high-capacity electric prime movers on inter-state freight routes, Tata Motors and BillionE Mobility are demonstrating the commercial viability of battery-electric vehicles for long-haul applications, supporting the country’s sustainability goals while addressing operational efficiency in logistics.

The partnership underscores growing confidence among fleet operators in electric heavy-duty vehicles, backed by robust product performance and an evolving charging ecosystem. For more details on Tata Motors’ electric commercial vehicle range, visit the official Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles website.
