Suzuki e-Access Records 703 Dispatches, 201 Retail Sales in January

Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. has recorded a subdued debut in the country’s fast-growing electric two-wheeler segment, with its first electric scooter registering modest sales in its opening month.

Priced at Rs 1.88 lakh (ex-showroom), the Suzuki e-Access is currently among the most expensive electric scooters in the Indian market. In January, its first full month of retail availability, the model recorded sales of just 201 units, translating into a market share of 0.16% of the 123,062 electric two-wheelers sold nationwide during the month.

Suzuki began production of the e-Access at its Gurugram facility on May 23, 2025. The model entered the market roughly seven and a half months later, with official launch, pricing announcement, and bookings opening in January 2026.Industry wholesale figures from SIAM indicate that SMI dispatched 703 units to dealers in January 2026. Of these, the 201 retail deliveries reflect a gradual ramp-up in customer handovers. By mid-February 2026 (up to February 14), cumulative deliveries had reached 370 units, suggesting improving momentum as awareness and test rides increase.

At Rs 1.88 lakh (ex-showroom), the e-Access commands a substantial premium over many direct competitors. For context:

  • Top variants of popular models like the Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, and Ather Rizta are priced notably lower, often with comparable or larger battery capacities.
  • The e-Access features a 3kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery, delivering a claimed IDC range of around 95 km, seamless acceleration, and support for both standard (6+ hours) and DC fast charging (around 2 hours).
  • Suzuki emphasizes reliability, a 7-year battery warranty, high build quality, and widespread service support through its network of over 1,200 dealerships (plus availability on platforms like Flipkart).

Despite these strengths—drawing on the trusted Access brand legacy—the higher price point has drawn scrutiny, especially in a price-sensitive market where buyers often prioritize range, features, and total cost of ownership.

Suzuki’s overall performance remained positive, with total two-wheeler sales reaching 1,25,786 units in January 2026—a 15% year-on-year growth. Domestic sales stood at around 1,00,296 units (up 14%), bolstered by strong ICE scooter and motorcycle demand, rising exports (up 21%), and growing spare parts revenue.

The e-Access represents Suzuki’s strategic push into electrification, aligning with India’s accelerating EV adoption in urban commuting. While the initial sales figures are modest, the brand’s extensive dealer network, brand trust, and focus on premium ownership experience could help build traction over time.As more units reach showrooms and real-world feedback spreads, Suzuki aims to capture a larger slice of the booming electric scooter market. For now, the e-Access’s first-month performance highlights the challenges of entering a highly competitive, value-driven segment with a premium proposition.
