Renault India launches the Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160, bringing E-Tech strong-hybrid tech to the country. Midsize SUV priced from Rs 16.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base Evolution variant, with mid-spec Techno at Rs 18.99 lakh and top-spec Emotion at Rs 19.49 lakh; these are introductory prices through December 31, 2026.

Bookings open for a token amount of Rs 21,000 via Renault’s website and authorized dealerships; deliveries commence from November 6, 2026, with priority given to R-Pass owners (especially for the top variant).

The Duster Strong Hybrid pairs a 1.8-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh lithium-ion (NMC) battery pack. Combines to give a combined output of 160 PS, with peak motor torque of around 208 Nm. Multi-mode automatic/dedicated hybrid transmission (often described as an eight-speed DHT with two electric and four petrol gears, enabling up to 15 drive combinations).

Renault claims the SUV can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in approximately 9.6 seconds. The hybrid system automatically swaps between pure electric, hybrid, and petrol drives as per the driving conditions. Does not need to recharge on external charging, as the battery is recharged by regenerative braking and the engine; Renault claims it can be driven in pure electric mode for up to 80% of the city driving, under suitable conditions.

The stand-out feature is an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 29 kmpl, which Renault claims to be best-in-segment for strong hybrids (ahead of its rivals, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara/Victoris and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder strong hybrids, which are rated around 27.97-28.65 kmpl). The company also claims a combined driving range of up to 1,400 km on a full tank and fuel savings of up to 29% compared to equivalent diesel vehicles, with lower CO2 emissions.

The hybrid joins its existing Duster Turbo TCe 100 and TCe 160 petrol variants (launch in early 2026, on the Renault Group Modular Platform). Its aim is to appeal to buyers who want diesel-like efficiency and refinement without the need for diesel powertrains or plug-in charging infrastructure. Its key rivals would be the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Victoris strong hybrids, and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder strong hybrid. The Duster hybrid offers a higher system power (160 PS vs. around 116 PS for its rivals) and is priced lower than some of them.

Renault offers the Protect 360 package (from around Rs 89,900), which typically covers several years’ insurance, maintenance, and assured buyback/resale value benefits. Warranty-wise, there’s reported to be coverage of up to 7 years on the vehicle and 8 years on the battery in some coverage. Dual-tone paint is also offered for an extra cost.

Launches with Renault’s “futuREady” roadmap and push to electrified powertrains in India to expand on the Duster’s reach beyond petrol buyers and to better compete in the strong-hybrid SUV segment. The listed prices are all ex-showroom, and may vary as actual on-road costs will depend on the location and options chosen. The real-world mileage will also vary depending on several factors. Prospective owners should visit the Renault dealerships for more info.
