Ola Electric Roadster X+ Gets Green Light: 500 Km Range & In-House Battery Tech Certified

In a landmark achievement for India’s electric two-wheeler sector, Ola Electric has secured crucial government certification for its flagship Roadster X+ (9.1 kWh) electric motorcycle. Announced on December 30, 2025, the approval under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), 1989 by the International Centre for Automotive Technology (iCAT), Manesar, paves the way for immediate commercial deliveries.

This milestone positions the Roadster X+ as India’s first electric motorcycle certified with a fully in-house developed 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack — a major stride toward self-reliance in EV technology and reducing dependence on imported cells.

The Roadster X+ (9.1 kWh) delivers a claimed range of up to 500 km on a single charge — setting a new benchmark in the electric motorcycle segment. This exceptional performance stems from Ola’s proprietary 4680 Bharat Cell technology, which offers high energy density, advanced thermal management, and reliable performance for long-haul, inter-city, and rural riding.

Ola specifically targets India’s vast motorcycle-dominated market, including rural and Tier-2/3 areas where charging infrastructure is sparse and daily distances are longer — making this model a practical solution for overcoming range anxiety.

The certification followed exhaustive vehicle-level testing, including constructional/functional safety, range verification, gradeability, noise levels, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and braking performance — all compliant with Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) standards.

Independently, the 9.1 kWh battery pack earned ARAI certification under AIS-156 Amendment 4, passing demanding durability and safety tests such as water immersion, thermal runaway prevention, fire resistance, vibration, and mechanical shock.

With deliveries now commencing, the Roadster X+ is poised to transform electric mobility for rural and semi-urban riders who require dependable, long-range options without frequent stops. By deploying the 4680 Bharat Cell platform across its entire two-wheeler lineup — including scooters and upcoming models like the Ola Shakti — Ola strengthens its vertically integrated ecosystem, from cell manufacturing at the Ola Futurefactory to final assembly.

An Ola Electric spokesperson described the achievement as a “defining step” toward accelerating EV adoption in India’s motorcycle-heavy two-wheeler market, delivering unmatched range, performance, safety, and reliability through homegrown technology.

As 2025 ends on this high note, the Roadster X+ certification validates Ola’s intensive R&D investments and propels India’s sustainable two-wheeler revolution forward. Customer deliveries are set to begin shortly — ushering in a new chapter for electric motorcycles across the country!
