MG Windsor Claims Top Spot as India’s Best-Selling EV in 2025 with 46,735 Units Sold

In a landmark achievement for India’s electric vehicle segment, the MG Windsor EV has emerged as the country’s best-selling electric four-wheeler for calendar year 2025. JSW MG Motor India announced today in Gurugram that the innovative electric crossover sold 46,735 units throughout the year, marking the first time a single EV model has achieved such volume in the passenger vehicle category.

Launched in September 2024, the Windsor quickly became a game-changer, maintaining consistent monthly sales of around 4,000 units on average. Its dominance was uninterrupted month-on-month, with Q4 2025 volumes showing over 20% growth compared to the same period in 2024. This performance helped the model reach the milestone faster than any other four-wheeler EV, previously crossing 50,000 cumulative sales in under 14 months.

The Windsor’s success is largely attributed to its innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) pricing model, which significantly lowers the upfront cost, making EVs more accessible. Combined with premium features, spacious interiors, advanced technology, and a futuristic design, it has redefined expectations in the mass-market EV space and turned customers into brand advocates.

“Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director of JSW MG Motor India,” said the Windsor epitomises a contemporary automotive marvel that has redefined the EV segment with its practicality, technology, and futuristic design. With Windsor, we have seen customers become brand advocates, encouraging their peers to join the EV movement. I am absolutely delighted that it has become India’s No. 1 selling EV of 2025, and we look forward to making 2026 even more memorable.”

The model’s strong performance propelled JSW MG Motor India’s overall EV sales up 111% year-on-year in 2025, contributing to the company’s total vehicle sales growth of 19% (reaching 70,554 units). The brand also crossed the significant milestone of 100,000 cumulative EV sales in India, solidifying its position as the No. 2 EV player behind Tata Motors.

As India accelerates toward greater EV adoption—supported by state incentives like Tamil Nadu’s extended road tax exemptions—the MG Windsor’s breakthrough sets a new benchmark. It proves that innovative pricing, premium features, and customer-centric design can disrupt even established leaders, paving the way for even stronger growth in 2026 and beyond.
