MG India Set to Showcase New 7-Seater SUV with EV and PHEV Versions on August 26

mg teaser out

JSW MG Motor India has released a new teaser for its upcoming three-row SUV, building anticipation ahead of an official showcase scheduled for August 26, 2026. The model, expected to be positioned above the current Hector and widely referred to in reports as the Hector Hawk or Hector Tomahawk, marks the brand’s first vehicle built on its new ADAPT (Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology) platform. This architecture is designed to support multiple electrified powertrains, and the new SUV will arrive with both a pure electric version and a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) option.

The August 26 event is anticipated to provide a detailed look at both the EV and PHEV variants. However, the fully electric model is expected to reach the market first, with deliveries beginning earlier than the PHEV, which is planned to follow at a later stage. This phased approach allows MG to introduce pure-electric mobility in the three-row segment promptly while preparing the hybrid alternative for buyers seeking greater flexibility.

At the heart of the EV version is a substantial battery pack, expected to be around 69.2 kWh of LFP chemistry, paired with a front-mounted electric motor producing roughly 201-204 hp and about 310 Nm of torque. Global counterparts of the underlying Wuling Starlight 560 or Eksion platform claim a CLTC range of up to 530 km, and Indian test mules have already been spotted with “500+ range” graphics, pointing to a competitive real-world figure once ARAI certification is complete. The PHEV counterpart is expected to combine a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and a smaller 20.5 kWh battery, delivering combined outputs near 195 hp along with an electric-only range of around 125 km and a total range exceeding 1,000 km.

Beyond the powertrains, the SUV is set to bring a package of features consistent with MG’s positioning in India. It will offer seven seats in a spacious cabin, likely with a beige-themed minimalist interior featuring dual digital displays, a panoramic sunroof, and practical touches such as third-row air vents. Exterior design cues teased so far include distinctive LED daytime running lights, rectangular headlamps, muscular proportions, dual-tone alloy wheels, and a premium stance inspired in promotional material by classic aircraft design. Safety and convenience equipment is expected to include multiple airbags, advanced driver assistance systems, and the brand’s familiar connected-car technology.

Pre-reservations are already open for ₹21,000 through MG’s official channels, signalling strong early interest. Pricing is anticipated in the ₹18-25 lakh (ex-showroom) range, placing the vehicle in direct competition with models such as the Mahindra XEV 9S and the upcoming Kia Carens Clavis EV in the growing three-row electric and hybrid SUV space.

With the ADAPT platform providing a flexible foundation for future powertrain options, including potential strong-hybrid or range-extender variants, this launch represents a significant step in MG India’s new-energy vehicle strategy. The August 26 showcase will clarify the final name, precise specifications, and detailed features, giving Indian buyers a clearer picture of what the next chapter in MG’s SUV lineup will offer.
