Mercedes-Benz India is set to add another luxury EV to its lineup with the global launch of the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric on November 4, 2026. The new EV will be built at their local production facility located in Chakan, Pune. This helps them keep the price very aggressive and also allows for the car to be launched in India in a record time frame of about 6 months after its European launch, which makes it the quickest Mercedes model globally to be assembled locally.
The 400 4Matic variant is the only version of this car being offered in India. It is powered by a 94kWh NMC battery and two electric motors to provide all-wheel drive. It can produce a combined 489-490 bhp and 800Nm of torque. This allows it to go from 0-100km/h in just 4.3 seconds despite having a kerb weight of over 2.5 tonnes.
The car has an impressive WLTP range of up to 715 km on a full charge, however, actual ranges will depend on driving condition. The range on paper is between 568 km and 715 km. The car uses an 800V electrical system meaning it can fast charge using DC at up to 330 kW. This means it can add up to around 300 km of range in just 10 minutes ideal conditions. It can charge from 10-80% in just 22 minutes. The car has a 22 kW onboard charger.
The GLC Electric uses a contemporary take on the Mercedes design language. LED lighting with an illuminated three-pointed star can be seen in the LED DRLs, the car has an illuminated grille, multi-spoke alloys, flush door handles, integrated rear spoiler and unique two piece LED tail lamps. The car has a length of 4,845mm and a wheelbase of 2,972mm providing a large 5-seater cabin with plenty of storage. There is a large boot up front with around 128 litres of space.
Inside the car is a huge 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen. This is the biggest screen ever produced by Mercedes-Benz. This combines the digital dash, central infotainment screen and passenger display into one single screen using the 4th generation MBUX system with its built-in AI assistant. The car does have physical buttons on the steering wheel and centre console. Additional features include Level 2+ ADAS with features tailored to India, rear-wheel steering to reduce turn circle, panoramic sunroof, clearview bonnet and 4D Burmester premium audio system. Optional features include a vegan interior from The Vegan Society.
The car went on sale in early October and has had great interest with hundreds showing interest. Deliveries will start from mid-November. We expect it to be priced between Rs 80-90 lakh ex-showroom. This will make it the most affordable locally-produced EV SUV from Mercedes-Benz India. It will be ahead of competitors like the upcoming BMW iX3 long wheelbase model due in 2027. It will help Mercedes-Benz gain more traction in the growing premium EV SUV market in India thanks to its long range, fast charging, advanced tech and local production. Full details including price and spec will be announced at launch tomorrow.
