Mercedes-Benz is all set to bring back the popular CLA nameplate to India in its all-electric avatar. The Mercedes-Benz CLA EV will officially launch in the country on April 24, 2026. Bookings are already open with a token amount of ₹1.5 lakh, and deliveries of the top variant are expected to commence by the end of April itself. This marks the return of the CLA after the ICE version was discontinued in 2020. Positioned as an entry-level luxury electric sedan, the new CLA EV will replace the A-Class Limousine as well as the EQA and EQB electric SUVs in Mercedes-Benz India’s lineup.
The new CLA EV features a sleek, coupe-like silhouette with modern Mercedes design language. Key highlights include:
- Illuminated grille with the signature Mercedes star pattern
- Sleek LED headlights with tri-arrow design
- Frameless doors and pop-out door handles
- Sloping roofline and sporty rear profile
- Available in multiple attractive shades including Polar White, Cosmic Black, Clear Blue, and exclusive Manufaktur colours like Patagonia Red and Alpine Grey
The sedan has grown significantly in size compared to the previous CLA. It measures approximately 4,723 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, 1,468 mm in height, and boasts a long wheelbase of 2,790 mm. This makes it almost as large as a C-Class, offering generous cabin space despite the sporty styling.
The CLA EV is built on Mercedes’ new MMA (Mercedes Modular Architecture) platform, which supports advanced electric powertrains. It will be offered in two variants:
- CLA 200 Standard Range — Smaller battery (around 58 kWh), expected range of 542 km (WLTP), suitable for urban and highway use.
- CLA 250+ Long Range — Larger 85.5 kWh battery pack delivering an impressive claimed range of up to 792 km on the WLTP cycle.
The flagship CLA 250+ features a rear-wheel-drive electric motor producing around 268–272 hp and 335 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds. Both variants use an advanced 800-volt architecture, enabling ultra-fast DC charging — up to 320 kW. This allows adding substantial range in a short time (roughly 100–200 km in 10 minutes depending on conditions).
Inside, the CLA EV showcases Mercedes’ latest MBUX hyperscreen system with next-generation digital interfaces, AI integration, and over-the-air update capabilities. Expect premium materials, ambient lighting, a spacious and airy cabin, and high levels of comfort suitable for both driver and passengers.Key expected features include:
- Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)
- High-quality audio system
- Ventilated and heated seats (likely in higher trims)
- Panoramic sunroof
- Multiple connectivity options
The interior design leans towards a modern, tech-focused layout while maintaining Mercedes’ signature luxury feel.
Mercedes-Benz is expected to price the CLA EV between ₹55 lakh and ₹59 lakh (ex-showroom), making it an attractive entry point into the luxury EV segment. The exact prices will be announced on the launch day.It will compete with electric sedans and crossovers in the ₹50–70 lakh range, including models like the BYD Seal, Kia EV6, and other premium offerings.
The CLA EV brings class-leading range, cutting-edge technology, and desirable styling to the entry-luxury segment. Its combination of long-distance capability, fast charging, and Mercedes badge is likely to appeal to buyers looking for a stylish daily driver with strong EV credentials.
With bookings already underway, interested customers are advised to reserve early as initial allocations may be limited. The April 24, 2026 launch is one of the most significant Mercedes launches in India this year, signalling the brand’s strong push towards electrification in the premium segment.
