Maruti Suzuki Reveals EV Infrastructure Roadmap Ahead of e Vitara Electric SUV Launch

In a bold move to accelerate India’s electric vehicle (EV) revolution, Maruti Suzuki, the country’s dominant automaker, has unveiled an ambitious infrastructure roadmap just ahead of its much-anticipated e Vitara launch. With an investment of ₹250 crore, the company is not only gearing up to introduce its first homegrown EV but also building a comprehensive ecosystem to banish range anxiety and streamline ownership for buyers. This strategic push signals Maruti’s intent to lead the charge in sustainable mobility, aligning with national goals for greener transportation.

A Nationwide Charging Network in the Making

At the heart of Maruti Suzuki’s EV strategy is a massive expansion of charging infrastructure. The automaker has already deployed over 2,000 exclusive charging points across more than 1,100 cities, targeting high-EV penetration areas like the top 100 urban centers and key inter-city routeThis includes 63 dedicated chargers along the Delhi-Chandigarh corridor, ensuring that e Vitara owners can tackle long hauls—like a round trip between these cities—on a single charge without breaking a sweat.

Looking further ahead, Maruti Suzuki aims to scale this network to over 100,000 charging points by 2030, in partnership with its dealer network and 13 leading charge point operators (CPOs).”By 2030, our aim is to establish a network of over 1 lakh charging points nationwide,” stated Managing Director Hisashi Takeuchi during the reveal event, emphasizing a consumer-first approach to make EV adoption “worry-free.” This ambitious target positions Maruti to create India’s largest public charging ecosystem, with chargers spaced every 5-10 km for seamless access. The ₹250 crore infusion underscores Maruti’s commitment, funding not just hardware but also collaborations that integrate third-party chargers into a unified system. As Takeuchi noted, “We aim to enter with full readiness in terms of the product and the ecosystem,” addressing a key barrier that’s held back EV growth in India.

The ‘e for Me’ App: Your Digital EV Companion

To tie this physical network together, Maruti Suzuki is launching the ‘e for Me’ app—a one-stop digital platform designed to simplify every aspect of EV life. Users can effortlessly locate the nearest charging station, initiate sessions, and handle payments via UPI or Maruti Suzuki Money, powered by Razorpay for a frictionless experience. Beyond charging, the app extends to home charger setup, service bookings, and real-time vehicle monitoring, promising a “consistent and advanced customer experience.”

This app isn’t just a tool; it’s the backbone of Maruti’s “end-to-end solution” for EV ownership, aggregating both Maruti’s stations and partner networks into a single interface. Early adopters will appreciate how it transforms what could be a fragmented charging landscape into a connected, intuitive journey—much like summoning a ride-hailing service, but for your electric steed.

Service Support: 1,500 Workshops Ready for the Road Ahead

Maruti Suzuki isn’t stopping at chargers and apps. Recognizing that reliable after-sales service is crucial for EV confidence, the company has equipped over 1,500 workshops across 1,000+ cities to handle electric vehicles. Backed by a 1.5 lakh-strong workforce trained in EV maintenance, these facilities ensure quick diagnostics, battery health checks, and software updates.

Maruti is even partnering with 130 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to skill up future technicians, future-proofing the ecosystem for years to come. This preparation extends to specialized “Service on Wheels” for on-the-go support, minimizing downtime and keeping owners on the move. As Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Director of Marketing & Sales, put it, “Maruti Suzuki is fully EV ready and committed to supporting customers with a comprehensive platform.”
