Maruti Suzuki has officially unveiled the India-spec e Vitara, its much-awaited first electric vehicle for the Indian market. Revealed ahead of its early-2026 launch, the e Vitara is positioned as a mass-market electric SUV that combines strong range, safety, flexible ownership options, and an extensive charging ecosystem.
Two Battery Packs and Segment-Leading RangeThe e Vitara will be available with two battery options, both driving the front wheels (FWD):
- 49 kWh battery – standard on the base Delta trim
- 61 kWh battery – standard on mid-spec Zeta and top-spec Alpha trims
The larger 61 kWh pack delivers an impressive ARAI-certified range of up to 543 km on a single charge, making the e Vitara one of the longest-range affordable electric SUVs in India at the time of launch.The SUV has also secured a 5-star rating from Bharat NCAP (BNCAP), reinforcing Maruti Suzuki’s reputation for safety in its maiden electric offering.
Bookings to Open Soon, Multiple Ownership RoutesOfficial bookings for the e Vitara will commence shortly, with deliveries expected to begin in early 2026.To reduce the upfront cost barrier typical of EVs, Maruti Suzuki is introducing innovative ownership models:
- Traditional outright purchase
- Subscription-based plans
- Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) – where customers can pay separately for the battery, significantly lowering the vehicle’s ex-showroom price
These flexible schemes are aimed at accelerating EV adoption among price-sensitive Indian buyers.India’s Largest Fast-Charging Network by Maruti SuzukiA major highlight is Maruti’s aggressive push into charging infrastructure. The company claims to have built India’s largest fast-charging network specifically tailored for the e Vitara:
- Over 2,000 charging points already operational across 1,100+ cities
- Tie-ups with 13 charging point operators (CPOs) for seamless interoperability
- Target of over 1 lakh charging stations by 2030 in partnership with dealers and CPOs
- A charger every 5–10 km in key areas, discoverable via the dedicated ‘e For Me’ app
On the service front, Maruti has readied more than 1,500 EV-capable workshops nationwide and will offer doorstep service for e Vitara owners.
