Mahindra XEV 9e Launched: A Spacious Electric 7-Seater Under ₹20 Lakh That Actually Makes Sense

Mahindra has officially stormed into the electric seven-seater segment with the all-new XEV 9e (pronounced “nine-electric”), unveiled in Bengaluru alongside its slightly smaller sibling, the XEV 9e. Built on the INGLO modular EV platform that already underpins the BE 6 and XEV 9e, the XEV 9e is Mahindra’s bold answer to families who want electric mobility without compromising on space, features, or (most importantly) affordability.

A proper electric three-row SUV starting at just ₹19.95 lakh (ex-showroom). In a market where most electric seven-seaters flirt with or cross the ₹30–40 lakh barrier, Mahindra has pulled off a masterstroke with the Pack One Above trim. It’s not a stripped-out base model either; it comes loaded with dual 12.3-inch screens, a panoramic sunroof, Level-2 ADAS, six airbags, and even ventilated front seats – features that would make many ICE SUVs in the ₹25 lakh bracket blush.

Battery and Performance OptionsThe XEV 9e gives buyers flexibility with three battery packs:

  • 59 kWh – entry-level, ideal for city use
  • 70 kWh – sweet spot (180 kW / 380 Nm)
  • 79 kWh – range-topper (210 kW, ~500+ km claimed range)

All variants support up to 180 kW DC fast charging, which Mahindra says can take the battery from 20% to 80% in about 20 minutes – a crucial number for family road trips.

Compared to the five-seater XEV 9e, the 9e gets a longer wheelbase and stretched overall length, translating into genuine third-row space (usable by adults on shorter journeys) and practical boot room:

  • 527 litres with the third row folded
  • Additional 150-litre frunk under the bonnet

Fold everything flat and you’re looking at segment-leading cargo capacity in the electric space. Why It MattersAt a time when most electric seven-seaters are either premium imports (Kia EV9) or yet-to-be-launched promises (Tata Sierra EV, Maruti e Vitara XL), Mahindra has delivered a ready-to-buy, feature-packed, fast-charge-capable electric family hauler that starts under ₹20 lakh. That’s not just competitive – it’s disruptive.

The XEV 9e isn’t trying to be the fastest or the most luxurious electric SUV on the road. Instead, it’s aiming to be the most practical, value-loaded, and accessible one – and on paper at least, it looks like Mahindra has nailed the brief.

Bookings are expected to open soon, with deliveries likely starting early 2026. If you’ve been holding off on going electric because nothing ticked the “family + affordable + spacious” boxes, the wait might finally be over.
