In a much-needed boost for Maharashtra’s electric mobility sector, the state government has approved ₹12 crore in incentives for electric three-wheelers. This move aims to ease growing concerns among manufacturers who have been grappling with delayed subsidies and policy uncertainties in recent months. The fresh disbursal is expected to provide immediate financial support to key players in the electric three-wheeler segment, helping them sustain production and expand their footprint in the state.Major Beneficiaries Among Private ManufacturersSeveral prominent electric vehicle companies have received sanction for their respective claims under the scheme:
- Bajaj Auto Ltd has been approved ₹1.04 crore for 348 electric three-wheelers.
- Mahindra Electric Mobility Ltd will receive ₹1.28 crore for 429 electric three-wheelers.
- Euler Motors Pvt Ltd has been sanctioned ₹18 lakh for 60 electric three-wheelers.
These incentives are part of the state’s ongoing efforts under its Electric Vehicle Policy to promote cleaner last-mile connectivity and support local manufacturing.
A Timely Breather for the Industry
The approval comes at a critical juncture when many EV manufacturers have expressed worries over pending subsidy payments and operational challenges in Maharashtra. By releasing these funds, the government is signalling its commitment to the sector despite earlier hiccups related to subsidy disbursals.Electric three-wheelers play a vital role in urban and semi-urban transport, offering an affordable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional autos. The incentives will help manufacturers reduce the effective cost of vehicles, making them more attractive to fleet operators and individual buyers.
Broader Context of Maharashtra’s EV Push
Maharashtra has been actively shaping its EV ecosystem through its 2025 policy framework, which includes demand-side incentives, toll waivers, and support for charging infrastructure. While larger allocations (such as ₹60 crore disbursals in earlier phases) have covered a wider range of two-, three-, and four-wheelers, this specific ₹12 crore tranche focuses sharply on electric three-wheelers — a segment critical for mass adoption in congested cities.
Industry observers see this as a positive step that could help restore confidence among investors and manufacturers who were earlier considering shifting some expansion plans outside the state due to subsidy delays.
With this approval, Maharashtra continues to position itself as a key hub for electric mobility in India, balancing environmental goals with the economic needs of the EV industry.
This targeted support is likely to accelerate the deployment of electric three-wheelers on roads, contributing to reduced emissions and quieter, cleaner urban transport in the coming months.
